Viz magazine once printed a picture of Sylvester Stallone. They'd drawn a moustache on him and the under the picture they wrote..a picture of Ian Botham. Stoopid as it sounds it looked quite a bit like Botham

Hollioake has decided to switch to MMA anyway.

Has he switched or is he going to do both?

His intention was always MMA. The boxing was for the publicity.

Interesting. I had a look at the clip of his boxing match and he looked OK for a 41 yo making his debut.

Against somebody with two losses in two fights two years ago.

He was fairly evenly matched. Made for a competitive fight. It would have been pointless matching him against a world beater when making his debut at 41 wouldn't it

Neither of them should have been allowed to fight.

I know where you are coming from. But if we start getting too choosey about who fights in Australia there won't be any fights at all. The number of registered fighters we have is piss poor, particularly in the lower weight divisions.

The laws they brought in years ago in New South Wales said you had to be able to prove special circumstances to box past the age of 35. Bob Mirovic was able to keep his licence because he was Australian Heavyweight Champion at the time.
I doubt that being an old cricketer met that criterion.

A fair assumption too. But there have been other debutantes recently who have been over 35, and probably without 'extenuating circumstances' to their name.

Hollioake's opponent in his MMA fight didn't pull up too well. Ending up with multiple facial fractures and other injuries.
