just discussing match ups the public would like to see on another thread and i said povetkin should be fighting wlad.
instead we have povetkin vs rahman and wlad vs thomson

i noticed povetkin has the slightly less super version of wlads WBA world title.
surely this makes him the highest ranked by that body and the fight has to happen soon....or is my logic flawed?

frightfully sorry, i'm not too clued up on the inner workings and the politics of boxing.

if these two guys can't fight because they hold slightly different versions of the same title, despite one being the best possible opponent for the other, it goes to show just how much of a mockery these "super world titles" and "silver world titles" are making of boxing,

kind of the point of the thread i thought........

I think domestically it's the ''masters'' titles.

I'm not sure we need the traditional area titles AND English, Welsh, Scottish etc.

The Commonwealth has also become almost an interim British title too unfortunately, with the odd clown from Ghana invited over to be smacked around until Terry O'Connor fancies giving one of his limp wristed waves to someone in the TV studio.

Internationally, it's all these Oriental, Baltic, Pan-something or other, the interims and silvers - was bad enough with ''world titles'' and ''intercontinental titles'' from four orgs, now you've about seven all flogging the same thing.

At the end of the day, if fighters are prepared to throw money at these things, then that's their fault. I suppose they reckon that with something on the line, however fake, it'll boost ticket sales to the point where the ''investment'' is worth it.

But only British based foreigners can box for it. I think.

I despise almost all of the cack titles but funnily enough, I think the Masters title is a good idea. Anyone can challenge you and you have to take them on or get stripped. Champ and challenger on a set purse. Keeps things moving and something for the lower level lads to box for which is (for the hardcore at least) not pretending to be the key to f**king global riches.

Then they went and made the concept bollocks by adding an International version!

Not certain, but I think that's not the case. From memory, they now seem to have any two UK fighters fighting for this.

Anyone know if George Carmen won the WBC Youth title at the weekend? It's probably my favourite daft title -with "Silver" and "International" variations no less.

Untrue, if you are the holder of the international masters title then anyone can challenge you for it from anywhere in the world, you either fight them or vacate it.

british masters is the same story but you must be british to fight.

edit... forgot to add there is some criteria, as in you must have had x amount of fights and a few other things.

Ah yes, the Irish-Kiwi who once fought a Croatian-Aussie for an African title is now meeting a black New Yorker for an Oriental belt.

How does he qualify for pacific and african titles at same time?
Easy. He live in a Pacific Ocean country, and all human life is said to have originated from Africa, so he is a Pacific resident of African descent.

Also, as "super" champs are crowned when a WBA champ unifies with another org, what would happen if, say, Povetkin fought Vitali? Would we have two super champs?

This is what I think the Klitschko's should have looked into. It would have given the brothers two belts each then.

I really don't know what happens - fingers crossed (if it would happen) it would have put the WBA in a big tongue twister and they would have had to abandon the craziness.... pigs might fly also.

I agree - I do like the British Masters concept, but not the adding of an "International" version.

What about the WBC Diamond Champion (Sergio Martinez) , WBC Silver Champion and then the standard WBC champion !! Joke !! 3 belts for world champions in 1 weight class and thats just 1 title (theres 3 other major titles with there own different belts) Should be 1 belt and if you want to be world champ you fight the world champ not just make another title.

I remember writing on a forum about this when the WBA had that stupid situation at featherweight. John was "Super" champion (despite not unifying anything) Gamboa was the "WBA Unified champion" (taken from the WBA's own website at the time with Gamboa holding both the WBA and IBF) and I think Barros (might be wrong there) was the the WBA "Regular" champion. Now had Barros unified with the WBO or WBC we'd have had a Super champion, 2 unified champions and no doubt a regular title floating about as well which if someone won and unified it with the remaining belt we could have seen the WBA having:
1xSuper Champion
3xUnified Champions
1xRegular title
1xInterim title
