Best thread I have ever read on this site. If you wanty my view on people who have a pop at the Laings, Alex Higgins, Ollie Reeds and Besties of this world its this, at least they lived.

They are talked about because they lived. They didn't just exist. They lived.

Why is it so wrong to be a piss head with talent? Beacause 'The Man' says so? Bollocks to that. Life is for living.

People need to remember a harsh fact about life.

Good point, part of Laings allure was the knowledge that he trod a tightrope between brilliance and disaster in nearly all his fights... his very style was a tightrope act... his flaws were part of his brilliance because he was and is human!... not a pompous robot like some I could mention... and I think it's only human to feel sympathy for him now he has suffered such a bad turn of events in his life, those who knock him are lacking I think in the very qualities that made Kirkland such a popular boxer...

Got a weird e mail today which baffled me before i remembered this thread, it read:

"Laing's family started to demand millions for info. They threatened people and generally acted like a bunch of drug-crazy lunatics. After a few calls I stopped calling. They asked me for 10 grand to see him, 25 grand to film him.
Adios."

Could i be i have been in the presence of the hallowed one? Or is it a cruel hoax? I have a strange feeling for a second there i was "In the know" :P

That is indeed Steve Bunce's email, he emailed me a while back too...

Sounds like Laing's family are suffering from Alex Higgins syndrome, where they grossly overinflate the value of their story, and end up with fornicate all as a result.

Alex Higgins was offered a nice amount of money for his biography, which would have been authorised, but made such ridiculous demands

It's sad, because it sounds like Laing's family have robbed him of what could have been a nice payday, which it sounds like he could bloody well do with.

Of course, there are two sides to every story, but the truth is, outside of die-hard boxing fans, and people who were around when Kirkland was in his pomp, nobody else has bloody well heard of Kirkland.

I remember seeing Kirkland on the Trisha show. I didn't really want to make an admission to watching the Trisha show, but fornicate it :)

It was about his mrs being overweight, did anyone else catch it?

He looked in good spirits then, but I aint sure exactly when it was filmed.

Yeah, filmed before the accident (and probably before Bunce' interview). He was a star and mentioned that he was still fighting! - he was doing hand pads with the production staff.

Imagine that "Av ya seen him", response "yeah man, he was on that Trisha show".
