He didn't actually stop that many with body shots though did he? I've been looking through and he softened them up there but he didn't take them out. maybe i'm wrong.

that US lightheavyweight from Arkansas is the only one i remember him directly putting down with bodyshots.
more normally he slowed them to a pace only slightly quicker than an old arthritic man carrying a heavy rucksack. Watson looked like he was wading through treacle after 3 or 4 rounds.

I've left this guys name out on purpose, a three weight, three time world champion... Never stopped, only on the floor once in his career and only beaten in his own prime once and that was avenged.

IMO, he is the greatest light middleweight ever.
I think his chin would have allowed him to survive the bombs of Thomas Hearns, for example & pressure The Hitman into defeat.

Great great fighter.
Had the privelege of meeting him in Nottingham many years ago when he was part of Herbie Hide's team.
Ryan was on the bill and he knew he was a friend of Herol's and was keen to pass on his regards to Bomber.
I think to the purist fans he's up there with the best.

Thought as much- yes I love good body punchers but always overlooked him because so few of his fights ended by that method.

I think he doesnt get mentioned as an ATG because his peak years were mid 80s in the JMW division and the late 80s in the MW division and he was just too late for the big 4 of the 80s and getting old when he fought Toney and ancient against Jones. Big Mac was definitely a great fighter, in the top 2 JMWs of all time with Hearns
