Hearns premature ring entry last night

Post by johnswan1 »

He was very lucky last night not to have got Carl DQ'd. It was crazy getting into the ring like that.

i think its nip picking to say he could of got dq. Everybody he the arena thought the ref stopped the fight. When a ref waves is hands in the high u natural thing they have stopped the fight. Also if i know the rules right eddie hearn is not a reg corner man so cant be a dq anyway.

Can we merge this with the 'What if Bute......' thread. Perhaps have this threads title instead of the former tho because this one makes it easier to know whats being discussed.

Molina was recently DQed against James Kirkland after his corner entered the ring when they thought the round had ended. Molina was winning the fight at the time. Just some food for thought.

The flipside to this thread is that Bute's corner men were on the ring apron anyways and if I am not mistaken that can constitute a DQ, too.

There has been several fights stopped too soon lately (not this one) and i wonder if the ref after waving it off, then panicked thinking he might have done the same- and so quickly started a count. That's how i thought it looked.

Also after the 4th round two of butes corner men were in the ring at the same time which is against the rules so nitpicking hed defo be DQed first.

McGuigan said he was at the rules meeting and they banged the drum about seconds and the ring apron.
If Eddie was wrong so was team Bute.
A bit daft by Eddie but nothing to get steamed up about - move on.

Is anyone getting 'steamed up?'

It's worth noting technicalities if they can impact a result

I rewatched the fight last night and afterwards Butes trainer stated that if anything the stoppage was a little late.

...and that was clearly a fail by the ref. The rules stated that you have to enter the ring and ''interfere''. This ref set a precedent, whereby seconds are now being warned that if they climb onto the ring apron... they've broken the rules. Interference is about interpretation. Also the full 8 count isn't always administered at the end of a round, as the rules state that the round ends when he regains his feet. It's then a case of seeing if he's fit to go out for the next round. The rules can be read in a number of ways, and I've seen different takes from different refs. Molina was done by the interpretation of two rules, and a lack of common sense.

In this fight Bute was actually waved off from fighting. I think the ref then decided that Bute was being held up by the ropes. Bute was holding onto the top rope. This is different from being held up and not going to the ground. I don't believe the ref was entitled to give a count anyway, unless the standing 8 count rule was in effect. And... if the standing 8 count rule was in effect he should have been administering them earlier.
