best boxing venue

Leeds Town Hall is the best venue i have been to, and Harry Mullan said the same.

The Royal Albert Hall is circular with rows and rows of balconies rising up to a domed ceiling . Everybody has a perfect view and the noise on a big fight night is deafening . There's obviously a sense of history as well . Its as if it was built for boxing .

Watched the Dubliners there in March and honestly the place was vibrating .

Saw Michael Watson v Mike Mc Callum there in 1990 ,think Lewis was on the bill . The only downside was a clown shouting ' Lineeeeeeeeeeeeekar ' in my ear all night for some reason !!!

Never seen Boxing at The Albert Hall but seen a concert. Can imagine it is a brilliant venue for the Boxing. The worst i have been to are football stadiums. They are shit.

Like most I go along with York Hall, great venue - sit where you want and none has a bad view. Sure there are other small halls that are similar but York Hall is the best I've been to.

As for bigger venues was impressed with the Nottinham Arena decent sized venue, we had good seats but even looking up at the back I'd imagine the view was still good and the atmosphere was very good. Same with the arena in Nuremberg where I saw Valuev v Haye - not a bad seat as far as I could tell and the arena was brilliant for creating an atmosphere.

Maddison Square gardens theatre is very good too. We sat at the very back row (middle block) for Martinez v Murray so the cheapest seats and have to say the view was amazing.

To be fair though you can go to a rubbish venue but if your with the right crowd/following a fighter with good support it really doesn't matter.

The York Hall aint all its cracked up to be to be honest.

Personally, three venues I enjoyed were.

1. Colne Muni

2. Winter Gardens, Blackpool

3. Ulster Hall, Belfast

4. Liverpool Olympia

for big fights the best in the MEN when its packed.

Each to their own but York hall is a great venue and I'd love to know why you don't think it's all that.

Pleased to see knowing mentioning O2 coz I don't like that place.


For me York hall and Sheffield city hall stand out just for the 'feel' of them

Albert Hall, no question. Went to the Billy Joe fight there in April. Great to be back.

I'll go with the Albert Hall too. I saw Kenny Vice flatten Jimmy Mac there on the same night Eubank knocked out Renaldo dos Santos with the first punch he landed. Beautiful, magical venue. One place I've always wanted to go was the Splott Leisure Centre - just because the name amuses me.

Leeds Town Hall (never used these days though because it costs too much to hire).

Colne Muni (like York Hall but more compact - you're so close to the ring you can smell the boxer's breath).

Ponds Forge (bigger venue but atmospheric and in a good city centre location).

I also like Barnsley Metrodome and Donny Dome but I'll probably be on my own with those choices.

One place I've always wanted to go was the Splott Leisure Centre - just because the name amuses me.

I've been there (was meant to be fighting on an amateur show but couldn't get matched). Needless to say you're not missing much
I'd have to cast another vote for York Hall, but agree with mfc_se15 re. Nottingham Arena and Madison Square Garden - saw Froch vs Pascal at Nottingham and Trinidad vs Mayorga at MSG and both were great.
Worst I've been in terms of value for money was probably the National Ice Rink at Cardiff for one of Calzaghe's defences (Enzo was on the bill against Gary Delaney as well). Paid for outer ringside or something similar and the view was poor and from memory there weren't even any big video screens for replays etc.

Maybe it was as a result of the York Hall being hyped to me so much before I went.

When I got there is was a poor-mans Colne Muni (I notice Wakey below has also plumped the Colne Muni as well. I dont anticipate that anyone from London or even south of Brum will every venture to the venue, after all its a mission to get to from Manchester, but it is a cracking spot, even if the audience is, whilst very raucous, pretty unknowledgeable.
