9 Ezzard Charles
So just pick a fight from any of the above trio and it will be a title defence.

Not to pea on your parade fella, but Dempsey lost his last fight to the Pea, so is he still eligible? Could Whitaker take that shot?

Unless the rule has changed, Dempsey can not fight for a title after a loss.
Also, Henry Cooper is booked twice against Tyson and Chavez.

Despite beating Dempsey, I am not sure if Whitaker is high enough to warrant a shot yet. Plus Detriot has offered a tough match vs Tunney. Can't really turn it down, I guess.
