It can't harm future fights that the whole card was so entertaining. If a big audience watched a strong FOTY contender like Jones v Brook, one has to hope they will look out for the next Kell Brook fight.

The stoppage to Alfonso Gomez at light-middle was when he was 19 years old - and it was a weak referee stoppage in the last round.

I think people are being extra-critical because they were expected to patsy to be demolished, like so many Bunny opponents for Calzaghe & Hatton of old - but this guy is a contender.

Glen Johnson is in the same mold as Jones, and he has 16 losses. If you'd never ever seen him, you'd laugh if he was made an opponent for Groves or Degale - but we know what he can do. He can flatten you if you gas on him.

:TU: People need to look at the lads record properly, decent fringe contender.

I'm glad that Kell has been honest about the weight issues in the lead up to the fight.
I was hoping and praying thast he would catch Jones and stop him by the half way mark, because the weight issues would start to have an impact in the latter stages.
Add that to Carson's strategy which was hardly ever to take a backward step and come in with those wide right hand shots and I was worried.
Then matters were compounded further with the broken nose and the breathing difficulties.
I've got to be honest and say that Kel made Carson look better than he is.
You can have the best conditioners, dieticians, trainers etc etc ( on this occasion I think it is wrong to put any criticism at Dom's door ) but ultimately fighters have to be true to themselves.
I firmly believe that this experience will be the making of Kel.
He's come through a rocky situation, shown heart and desire, and if work is then put into ensuring the weight issues are made easier, or put to bed totally then we have a World Champion in the making.

Good post, that.

The truth is that Kell (at his own request) Kell is responsible for looking after his own food and diet. He's one of the few championship level fighters in the gym that don't opt to have Dom looking after this side of his preparation.

I've just a good chat with Kell's father Terry and Terry says that having seen Kell fade down the stretch, it's imperative that they sort this problem out now. Terry is open minded as to what the problem is and will look at all options. Terry confirmed that he thinks Dom is a fantastic trainer and pointed out how well Kell boxed in the first half of the fight - where i think most people will agree that he looked absolutely fantastic.

If you look at someone like Kid Galahad (for example) - who has shown the capacity to do 12 rounds at a pace - he is at Dom's house to eat three times a day. Also, he's never far off his fighting weight (a bit like Carl Froch, Amir Khan). Galahad's fitness and conditioning are excellent and I would say that if you look at the vast majority of fighters that Dom trains, fitness and condition are almost uniformly excellent. So i wouldn't attach any blame at all to Dominic for Kell's stamina problems on Sat night.

I think that this fight will be the making of Kell. He's learnt a painful lesson that he cannot afford to cut any corners.

As for getting in a specialist conditioner - there's no need. Dom is very competent in this area. But if you were to go down that path, how about engaging Carson Jones' trainer to help? I hear that despite shedding three stone in two months and taking a massive pounding for six rounds, he was still pacing relentlessly round his dressing room 'like a caged tiger' one hour after the fight. That's serious conditioning! I'd love to know his secret.

I really enjoyed the fight. My first visit to Sheffield was certainly worth it. Kell was class for the half then when he begin to tire in the second half showed great guts to stay in their. Jones was a good fighter. I be at Kell next fight for sure.

Rees v Matthews was a good fight as well. Proska looked good stopping Hope as well.

The point I observed was that people have been saying that in previous fights Kell hasnt been out of second gear and when the going got tough he would go through the gears. I didnt see that on Saturday. He showed heart and a good chin but I would have rather have seen him go through the gears so he wouldnt have been put in that situation in the first place.
