Was very fortunate to be house second for him that night and was actually down to be in Jones' corner til i twirled my pal, very brave boy who never moaned once in the fight, never the same after that but a proper fighters fighter. RIP.X

Sad news good memories though, heart goes out to his family and close friends, rip mate.

I remember the boxer, I was not a fan but remember his tiger striped hair. Its always very sad when anynoe dies from what I would imagine reading between the lines is drug related. I would hate to lose my son through drug addiction. Fact of life these days, get a reputation in terms of fame and the hangers on soon swarm around you offering this and that.

Sad for his family but now there is peace.

I read somewhere that during his fighting days he used to like to knock out bouncers! The bigger the better apparantly ...as only a small guy thats pretty impressive

thats nice eric the mans just passed and your getting your two pence worth, yeah richard did chin a few people in his time but let me tell you all that he never ever went looking for agg, when he used to stay at my brother garry's house with silky jones he was nothing but a model pro, the only thing he didn't like doing was his running (but who does) but he still done it, i was with him one night in a bar and this fella was jumping about (out his nut) and bumping into people and being a right pest when all of a sudden he turned pushed richard, when rich asked what the problem was the fella said f*"k off you little c"$t and went to punch him, rich slipped the shot and sparked the fella with a left hook, i turned and picked rich up around the waist and walked out with him,he had simler things happen to him over the years, the thing was because he was only 9st people in bars/drunk seemed to think they could push him about, well they came unstuck,
i've known richard for many many years and i know he'd never go looking for agg, but also he would never walk away from it he was what you'd call a mans man, he was a fantastic fighter that never reached the heights that he should have had, i just hope that he's at peace now and the demons have gone,

Darcy; I can't speak for anyone else but didn't get the feeling that Eric meant any sort of slight towards Richard.

Having been a friend of his and seen him train and fight do you think that he was a born hitter or did he have to work very hard to get that sort of power? I've seen the montage on youtube and the way Evatt affected people when he caught them is rarely seen.

I met him after he fought in Southend along time ago, R.I.P.

one of the most genuinely heavyhanded fighters i have ever seen in the lower weights in these Isles.

do you think he was always like that or learnt a technique?

i know what you mean mate,
i was just talking to a fella today that was there when richard smashed lumps out of a mr witter, he (witter) got out and went home after 4 rounds and wouldn't come back, richard was so naturally powerful he just knew that when he landed he ended it, and to answer your question on his power he never had to work on it i.e lifting weights ect but he would work on his footwork to get the right angles to get the maximum power out of his shots
on a lighter note he only trained for 3 weeks for the junior jones fight

Sounds like his life went terribly downhill. Remember watching him give Junior Jones a very hard night's work on a Naseem undercard. Good tough 90s fighter. Love the thought of a 9 stone guy putting bouncers to sleep, most doormen seem to be sick, evil bully boys who like throwing their weight around. This Evatt must have been quite a character. RIP.
