Okay his manner is more suited to the slow-paced, often farcical fights we get on the continent but he really provides plenty of laughs along the way. Lines like "This guy can definitely box a bit, don't expect to see him in a British ring any time soon" are typical from him. He also makes many good technical observations over the course of a fight.
I dont dislike the guy he loves the game so has my respect but he talks shit constantly. Im not talking bout the insights into the game but the constant screaming and yelping like someone has lit a match under his arse any time someone connect with a jab. Im looking for intelligent comment not constant cheerleading.
In shot after a while he gets too oppressive and is too OTT but thats for my tastes so hey like I say ill bet he is fun bloke to have a beer with he just drives me mad after 10 mins of listening to him.

No I'm not a fan of the very smug Holdsworth either.

Some other Reg Gutteridge classics:

"There not bothering with a scouting report these two!!"

"oh dear, it's three falls and a submission"

"The only advice his corner can give him is: look out here he comes!"

"And the first round...it's like a mindfield in there.."

might just be the old addage as far as Im concerned with commentating, less is more, make sure what you say is concise and to the point, I would rather hear the crowd roar than you shout your ass off......that goes for most sports not just boxing. No offence to Mr Holdsworth but he could do with watching andf passing comment rather than trying to sell the fight the whole time its on.

I mean what the fornicate is full fat fistic action for crying out loud. on second thoughts dont answer that. :D :D

Never, ever enjoyed Gutteridges commentary. Especially towards the end.

Reg Gutteridge is the messiah of Boxing Commentators and one of the few who has actually boxed.

Reg is very knowledgable and puts his point accross very well.

He is also a very nice guy, very down to earth

When my brother was about 17 he wanted advice on how to get into Boxing jouralism. He wrote to several people in the trade.

People like Hart, Sheehan and Bunce blanked him.

The only one who reponded to his letters was Reg Gutteridge who sent him a three page handwritten letter giving lots of advice and providing his phone number in case he wanted a chat about the game.

Pure class in my book.
