Al Bernstien, Jim Watt (dull yes, but a lot better than most), Jim Rosenthal (very, very good when he used to commentate). Mike Tyson did some small stuff and was really, really good. Steve Holdsworth would be immense. Not sure how I would sit them as they are all opinionated but at least there would not be bias

Listen, you regularly confuse me (Ian McNeilly) with Jim Neilly - the chap who commentates for the Beeb on the amateur boxing. I've just ignored it but now you're slagging me off for another bloke's perceived faults, I'll have to say something

I like...Ian Darke, Bob Mee, Jamie Moore, Carl Froch (especially Froch - very honest, knowledgeable and he just cracks me up with his directness), Ed Robinson, Teddy Atlas, Richie Woodhall, Mike Costello...I've almost certainly forgotten some too.

I also used to like Gary Mason, RIP.

Knew I'd forgotten at least one - Al Bernstein.

Oh, another (and probably my favourite writer though I know others don't share this) - Steve Farhood.

Both are very knowledgeable and excellent communicators. The latter will also 'call it as he sees it', which is important to me. That's why I like Froch so much.

A word of praise for Big Colin Hart too. He just stands out like a sore thumb when he's on...makes you realise how sanitised the coverage usually is when Harty is dragged out.

Again I think he suffered from being too honest.

Reg and Harry are both dead so can't comment on anything, but they were both excellent.

Rosenthal was ok as a front man but he was lacking a bit in the in-depth stuff that's needed. He looked like he was really struggling the last few times they wheeled him out for the boxing.

Rosenthal, Reg and Jim, before the propaganda machine got hold of him. Great nights on ITV. Liked Brenner, too, Screensport, Tuesday's.

Richie .... knowledeable but not too judgmental

worst nightmare would be Jim Watt's repetitive whingeing (and the fact that he drones on and on)

Gary Mason was a wonderful analyst and studio pundit. I always hoped he'd make his way back into TV, and maybe allegedly would have given him a home on allegedly, sadly it wasn't to be.

Harry Carpenter and Terry Lawless were the best in my opinion because they were wonderfully understated and because they only worked together once in a while. They understood that people don't give a damn about those outside the ring.

Jim Neilly knows more about boxing than most of the morons mentioned in the thread. UK commentators are largely a joke. Neilly and Darke are probably my favourite non-boxer commentators from the UK.

Teddy Atlas, Gil Clancy, Ferdie Pacheco are awesome...Larry Merchant is awesome

Teddy Atlas is number 1 IMO

My apologies, Ian. I didn't actually realise that dondada was you as you always posted under Ian McNeilly. I was and will always be referring to Jim Neilly

Manny Steward is excellent in my opinion.
