Agreed. The main thing that the Olympians need is exposure and those channels will give the most. I like Frank Maloney and wish him well but I'd only like to see Joshua with him if it was off allegedly (even though I've been a subscriber since day 1!).

Sky reaches around 11 million customers. Each household receives their monthly Sky Magazine - and they can put Joshua on the front whenever he fights. You simply cant buy that sort of advertising.

Plus the sky news, soccer am, ringside and constant advertising would really solidify his profile in the paying sports fan's eyes. Sky Sports is available across all the other platforms like Virgin etc and

Any other channel, his profile would just wouldn't gain the exposure his stature might deserve if he bags gold in great fashion.

I can't see Joshua being good enough to be a pro champion. Audley had much more talent.

I can't see him doing much in the pro ranks. I thought he lost that final against the Italian. Looked untidy, not much technique or didn't show it, was knackered after three rounds. At times he just stood and didn't throw punches. Don't really know how he got that decision.

In fairness Joshua is still a novice, he should stay amateur untill Rio, he will have learned a lot by then and will physically develop as a man. At that point he will be in a much better position to be a pro champion.

He admitted in the interview that he was still a 'baby' (only 43 bouts) and wanted to stay in the ams to learn. I really hope he sticks to that as any immediate foray into the pros will be short and inglorious.

He's only 22 and will learn far more on the international amateur circuit fighting other good quality lads than he will by being fed a diet of stiffs for the next four years. I hope he has the strength of character to stick to his guns

Interesting they don't have much faith really or they assume he will stay on for rio !
Thinking of putting £1000 on that bet, there's no one really around at the minute and the guys at the top will all be out by then !

I was thinking the very same but was reluctant to say it. Though Audley was 29, at the time, it has to be also said. Joshua needs to lose the muscle and stay put in the AM's.

I don't see him staying AM, though. Too many smiling sharks (as someone put it) and too many £££'s being flashed will kill that idea.

Which is all very nice, for sure, but 11 mil pales into insignificance compared to the capabilities of ITV, BBC and C5. I know that Sky were very pleased with the last Kell Brook figure, and Kell had the benefit of all the things you mention, but it wasn't as high as the figure the last Kid Galahad fight was left with after half its audience had dropped away 10 mins into the show. Sky are good but small in comparison to a terrestrial. In terms of viewing audience, Sky beats allegedly but that's about it

Nothing touches Terrestial TV. Shame, bar C5, the others do not get involved. Boxing always pulls in excellent figures, dwarfing anything SKY could ever do. For exposure, at the moment, C5 would be the way forward but SKY have the money to throw at him.

'Exposure' doesn't pay the bills. Money does.

Now if i was a rock singer, would i prefer 10,000 paying customers or 30,000 at a free concert ?

Or a famous chef - would i want 500 people saying how amazing their free lunch was, or 200 that paid for their amazing lunch.

It's all relative.

When you multiply something by zero the answer is always zero. And zero is what the audience pays for terrestrial broadcasts. Professional sports is all about money. Amateur sports is all about exposure and doing it for free.

As a punter id love it to be terrestial, as his manager no chance !

There's enough rumour and discontent to suggest that the money for pro-boxers at the start of their careers is pretty basic; the splintered landscape in terms of TV and Promoters means that whatever money there is is being spread thin and you have Mr Warren stating in his Sun column that the financial climate is not what it was when Audley, Khan and Degale turned over. One only needs to look at the varying fortunes of the Beijing 2008 team to think that staying amateur might be a more financially sound option (Tony Jeffries, Joe Murray, BJ Saunders, David Price, Frankie Gavin and to an extent James Degale have probably all had pro careers that have failed to live up to their hopes when turning pro).

The success of the team in London 2012 will guarantee additional funding that looks to be secure for 4 years, so maybe the elite guys will be able to be offered sufficient money to stay and go for Gold in Rio?

No doubt heads will be turned with promises of vast wealth, fame and glitz and glamour to go with it, so one only hopes that each of these guys are given the right advice from the right people.
