it was a boring fight but bellew vs mckenzie 1 was more exciting than any cleverley fight ive seen. fact is clev needs to fight bellew again because the first fight was so close and this is all people are gonna keep saying. bellew proved more in their fight than cleverley did and thats a fact.

Cleverly proved to be the better fighter at the time.

I would like to see Cleverly vs Bellew II, but Cleverly doesn't need Bellew and there are plenty of good fights out there for him.

if there are plenty of good fights out there for cleverley why isnt he taking them? as a boxing fan im getting served shite with cleverleys opponents,people cant tell me that these guys are genuine title challengers,as for the fight with tony i thought tony won it and proved to me he can mix it with anyone in the world.

He might not need Bellew but he needs to start fighting better opposition.

the difference is that bellew isnt a defending 'world champion', and at this stage fights like this are good for experience with that little bit of risk there aswell. his boxing skills have shone through where people were just expecting him to try and bomb everybody out all the time, and he's still improving! he's got the sense to be entertaining when he can, and fight smart when he has to.

the problem i feel with cleverly is that he has a title way too soon, and it wont be long until he's forced into a position where he has to fight somebody who is levels above the likes of who he's facing right now, and i dont think he is gonna be ready for it at all. he was literally given that belt, such a shame for him that the braehmer fight never happened

Mate I agree with almost everything your getting at - the point for me is that Cleverly is NOT a real world champion. It's not his fault - I don't look at Cloud or Shumenov as real world champions either. I've given up trying to rank the WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF in terms of significance, they are all as bas as each other now. I look at who a guy has beaten and fought - nothing more.

I also appreciate what your saying re. Miranda but truth be told he isn't a 175lb fighter, he could still make 168 and possibly 160 at a punt. He looked tiny vs Bellew and has done nothing, in fact has actually just damaged his career at 175. It was a win on a par with Cleverly's over Karpency for me - no threat and we learnt nothing about either man.

Howere 175 now looks a dreadful division. Dawson took the kind of weight drained hiding on Saturday that could just ruin him for life, and Hopkins really is well past his gob-smacking best, however not before he undermined the hell out of Pascal over 24 rounds. Whats left? Cloud who got gifted a win vs Campillo? Shumenov and Cleverly who have beaten no one of real class? It's a weak division where Bellew could make a wee run, though more to do with others failings than his true world class IMO. If Froch stepped up he could easily become a two weight world champ with the current crop. Eddie peeking at Bellew/Froch sometime?

froch vs bellew or cleverly in the future sounds good to me! and yeah when you put it like that the division is wide open, i'd like to see froch in the mix next year after he's finished at 168!

youre right that its not cleverlys fault, i do just get irritated at all the press releases about fighting hopkins and people of the sort because i dont believe they would seriously consider fights like that! ( im sure nathan himself would go for it but i mean the people behind him)

What gameplan was that? Let Miranda chase him around the ring for six rounds until the old geezer was out of puff?
I don't know whether his team were scared of the power of Miranda or what but Miranda couldn't get out of first gear from the first round onwards and couldn't put together more than a couple of punches together at a time without taking a breather.
In this instance I think his teams gameplan to be overly cautious and they should trust Tony's natural instinct to know when he can go for the kill.
I'm fairly sure he could have wiped Miranda out in a few rounds if he'd shown confidence.
Although it was a decent name on the record it wasn't the statement he could have made.
Far too much respect rewarded to Miranda, where was the spiteful disdain he showed Cleverley and Mckintosh.

Tony did that and then finished the job. He could have done it slightly earlier as you say, but I'm happier Tony is listening to his corner instead of doing 'his own thing' which we saw get him in trouble in the past.

It's a fair point that he was doing the right thing and listening to his corner, as I say just a little too safety first to make a statement.
I think Cleverly would have dealt with Miranda, for the record.
