Thompson was ahead? What's your source? Boxrec now lists the scores as 39-37 x2 for Culcay and 38-38. It's easy to see the rationale for having Thompson ahead, but the official cards support what manno seems to be implying; it would've been difficult for Thompson to win, even if he appeared to shade most rounds.

You think so? Im not 100% sure. The one thing i will say is many thought mark got lucky against horta, i was there that night and horta certainarly thought so as he stprmed out the ring shouting... Guess sometimes things even themselves out over the course of a career.

I would say mark has thrown himself right back in the british mix, even in defeat. Can he make 147 does anyone know?

I've seen stoppages just as bad, I doubt with the time out he could make 147 and if if he could it would probablt take to much out of him. I'd like to see him fight Jamie Cox for the commonwealth or Joe Selkirk in a British eliminator

Yeah it is easy to see the rationale for having mark ahead, he was winning the rounds! Really surprised at 2 x 39-37 cards, oh, wait, no im not <Shakes fist in general direction of germany>.

I think of the rationale for having Thompson ahead as the reasons why he should've won more rounds, not simply that 'he was winning the rounds.' A good argument would be that he scored relatively frequently from the outside, while successfully keeping Culcay at a distance which didn't suit him stylistically. This led to a parsimonious and low quality output from Culcay, as he struggled to get into a range from which his quicker, more compact punches were effective. Of the completed rounds, Culcay regularly found his ideal proximity and thereafter capitalized only during the third, which he won clearly. I, therefore, understand how people could've scored the bout 3-1 or 2-1-1 for Thompson, notwithstanding the divergence of those scores from the official scores.

MARK THOMPSON WAS CLEARLY AHEAD, HE HADN'T BEEN HURT BY CULCAY AT ALL, I WAS THERE, THE GERMAN CROWD BOOD THE DECISION BY THE INADAQUATE PATHETIC REFEREE. ANOTHER EMBARRASING DECISION IN GERMANY AGAIN, AS I TOLD THE PROMOTER FRANK ON THE NIGHT, NO ONE WILL BE GOING TO GERMANY SOON TO FIGHT AND THAT IS A SHAME FOR SUCH A RESPECTFUL AUDIENCE AS THE GERMAN'S WERE.
