Yes obviously a massive name like Hatton will draw I was only comparing the following an average name could draw there which is precisely why Macklin has tapped into his irish roots!

Gomez did it but I remember Hatton rabbiting on about being like a Mexican and wearing a blue sombrero during one of his ring walks, might have been the Castillo fight.

Judging by his age I guess his parents must have been Turkish gastarbeiters (guest workers) who came to Germany in the 1960s to help power the West German economy of the 1960s as they had shortages of labour and when the agreement with the Turkish government ended in 1973, rather staying home where there was little work they stayed on in their droves which has led to a Turkish community of 5 million and has seen football players like Mesut Ozil and Memhut Scholl being capped for the German national team.

It was indeed. But he changed his name in tribute to Wilfredo Gomez who was actually Puerto Rican as there was another boxer called Michael Armstrong on the Board of Control's list.

Brilliant. I get the feeling if the interview wasn't for Boxing Ireland we wouldn't have been treated to that outstanding fusion accent.

Macklin needs to claim his city which is birmingham His got alot of love here............... I dont know him but I remember allways seeing him running and even than people would stop him............ now that his made it you dont really hear about birmingham its all Ireland

Graham Norton and Terry Wogan are fornicating cringeworthy doing the Eurovision voiceover and saying "us" and "we" every time the UK is mentioned. And by the way, what happened to their accents? Martin O'Neil rightfully did not want to wear a poppy, yet accepted an OBE.

Possibly because 'we are rubbish' is more palatable to the viewer than 'you are rubbish'. I would imagine they are speaking on behalf of the BBC more than anything else.

That's quite funny, he actually gets more Irish the more it goes on. I do that myself, mind, when I'm talking to people with a strong accent I find I subconsciously start immitating them. Particularly with scousers.
