Manny Steward is one, if not THE greatest boxing trainer of all time.

40 mins after the Detroit News reported his death, the Detroit Free Press released a counter-article with the following:

"At this point, I'm asking EVERYBODY to LEAVE US ALONE so that we can comfort and communicate with Emanuel," Steward's sister Diane Steward-Jones emailed to the Free Press today.

"His surgical team just dropped by and scoffed at the reports he is dead."

One boxing website has reported him dead, then alive, then dead, then alive, then dead - all in one day.

The WBO apparently did a minute silence at their convention for a man whose own sister is saying is still alive.

It shows how much the man IS loved by the boxing fraternity and I only hope that the family do not take offense and can view these wishes in some kind of positive light.

This story has been removed!!!! If it wasn't about the fact that a great man who is clearly gravely ill (we can surely be certain of that) being the centre of the story these last couple of hours on boxing websites / twitter would almost be laughable.

So many statements / retractions etc.

this came out about half hour, 40 mins after the detroit news one. With proper quotes saying he is definitely alive.

I bet some websites will hope he croaks after the utter tosh they have put up about him all day being dead when he wasn't.

I'm glad he's alive and kicking and hope he gets to read a newspaper with news of his death; I can imagine he'd laugh, (sure it's happened before but not sure who to).

By the sound of the reports that steward was having rekei healing which is a normal for family's to do in most last ditch attempts trying to perform miracles, I'm led to believe he has sadly left us.

No it doesn't. It shows how desperate people are to try and big themselves up by trying to show how compassionate, on the pulse, and connected they are in one fell swoop with a hugely devalued three letter statement.
There'll not be many on this site that knew or have met the man and want to put an RIP to news of his death; am still muling over whether that constitutes 'bigging themselves up'. There are people that are connected to the man and far closer who have paid their respects electronically, that they have done so in error does not constitute malice; I imagine that you'll show your respects (when the sad event passes) in an understated floral memorial or a tear stained elegy to put real and proper value to the sentiment?

There are many people around who like to be the first to break bad news, most people know someone like this and they know who they are too
