Sure that I read on here before that ryan clark has been seen smoking either prior or after a fight outside the venue.

surely this must destroy your fitness? can you be 1/2 as fit while smoking even if you train super hard?

hard training will make you cough most of the crap out. smoking may not be good for you physically but its certainly good for you mentally..well, it works for me (3 roll-ups a day tops)

I remember Ernie Smith boxing Mark Thompson early in Marks career on a jack Doughrty show in Shaw Oldham.Only an hour before after having a pint and a fag he got up telling some fans who he was sat with he better go and get ready as he was boxing in a couple of fights  remember the lads watching him make it quite competitive and couldn't believe it was the same guy!!

Where did you read that because this interview contradicts that claim.
"I've looked after my body over the years. You have to be on your guard against injuries and keep yourself flexible. I've taken up yoga and pilates. I don't drink at all. Smoking was banned [in pubs] a few years ago which helped me because I've always worked in pubs. I've had half a pint of Guinness or a pint about six months ago, and I've never smoked. Smoking has no purpose being in an athlete's life. I have half a pint of Guinness and I get a headache.

I remember smoking a few snout before fights with earnie smith.good memories!i know I'm only a journeyman but up till recently I smoked 20 a day. Along with quite a few lads. Some winning fighters too. It never harmed my fitness too much. Then again. Learning to relax made 6 rounds feel like 2. It's a state of mind.some lads train , live right. Do one round & blow out their arse. It's all in the head.

Osman Aktas. I once saw him outside a hotel in Dagenham smoking tabs in TWO hands after he had boxed Michael Hunter the night before. True story!

I smoked weed daily and trained hard for years (throughout my 20's) and I reckon I'd have held my own in terms of fitness with most in the gym (in a non-boxing gym.......... cuz I dough like people hitting me)

with the utmost respect, i think theres a big difference between "boxing fit" and your average joe down fitness first. Certainly at pro level.
