Re: Bellew v Bolonti

For a guy with 30 wins on his record Bolonti is practically clueless offensively. Why not throw some left hooks when your opponent's right eye is fucked? He's not terrible defensively.
Bomber has been pretty smart since he has been cut, he is doubling up the left jab and throwing good shots to the body as well to keep Bolonti off.JLP wrote:For a guy with 30 wins on his record Bolonti is practically clueless offensively. He is not 'sweet pea' Whittaker or massively skillful but he has shown toughness and he has made Bellew miss a lot, made him look awkward. It has been a pleasant surprise. He is like another Argentinian old timer called Eduardo Corletti - I am happy how it is turning out. He will be there at the end despite bomber's boasts of flattening him.Final round wrote:To FatGit
It's fair to say you were stretching it with the 'live one' bit imo. He's practically no ambition to get in there, defensively capable sure.
Not slick though Sweet Pea was slick!
I'd imagine the frustration is mainly coming from Bolonti negative performance and that his eyebrow is pissing blood but apart from that Tony is pissing it had him down twice in the first couple.
I don't watch Strictly either but I have been on a sewing machine tonight. seriously.
What were you fixing then mate... Bomber has been boxing smartly and Bolonti is tough and well organised defensively but on the offence he has not really shown much.Final round wrote:To FatGit

each to their own I'm not impressed at all. Bomber has put him down a couple of times and is winning by a landslide. There is no credit in that for Bolonti considering his 'LOFTY'!! Yeah I agree Tony has done his job with a bad cut too and Bolonti is a tough survivor . I was having an attempt at sewing some stuff for missus' pre-prep school, involuntarily!IRLangmaid25 wrote:What were you fixing then mate... We're you watching the same man Ian?Old bones Ian wrote:Whats peoples thoughts on this one for Saturday, i've watched a few of Bolonti's fights on youtube , and he likes to come forward and take control of the ring centre. He doesn't seem to have the best defense, there's not much head movement from him. Bellew shouldn't have to go looking for him and his punches should find the target.
Bolonti is unbeaten for 6 years and has only lost a 4 rounder near the start of his career, so he should be here in full confidence. This one could be fight of the night, i think it depends if Bomber boxes or gets into a punch up. I can see Bellew using his boxing and movement early on, but getting dragged into a fight in the middle rounds, i'm going for a late round stoppage for Bomber
I trust you drove a decent bargain for doing the above mentioned favour... It was a calm and mature performance from Bomber and I think that first McKenzie fight has made Bomber a more mature fighter and a less reckless fighter than he was in the past and we are seeing it now. Bolonti showed good footwork and upper body movement so he was a tricky opponent for Bomber to nail down, but Bomber did not get frustrated he cut the ring down well and picked his shots well and threw plenty of combinations to try and pull Bolonti open.Final round wrote:Yeah I agree Tony has done his job with a bad cut too and Bolonti is a tough survivor . They were good shots that dropped Bolonti but he seemed to treat them as as if they were "flash" knockdowns than proper knockdowns, which could have had the potential to either demoralise Bomber or force him to more reckless and potentially make his cut even worse. But he did not disheartened by that or get flustered by the cut, he just kept calm adjusted very well to the change of game plan and got the victory and he deserves alot of credit.Fat Git wrote:I thought Bolonti was great! I loved how he made Bellew miss! I was a big fan of Bomber Graham and watching him make good fighters miss was a treat too - not that Bolonti was like Graham in any way at all but that kind of defensive competence isn't too common these days where the art of defence these days is to walk into punches, stumbling around the ring.
Cut or not - Bellew wouldn't have got Bolonti out of there - there was no real proof of that and the couple of times he went down Bolonti seemed allright. I think Bellew's level has been found - don't blame Bolonti for being limited - he was brought over here to get KO'd in a couple of rounds and it didn't happen.
You are quite right Langers, Bomber did well despite the cut and settled down and used his boxing rather that going in blood and guts which is just as well because it doesn't seem his power is going to carry up the steps in class he has to take to become world champion.IRLangmaid25 wrote:They were good shots that dropped Bolonti but he seemed to treat them as as if they were "flash" knockdowns than proper knockdowns, which could have had the potential to either demoralise Bomber or force him to more reckless and potentially make his cut even worse. He doesn't deserve any more credit that he's got. He was better defensively than people perhaps thought and people have acknowledged that, but he barely did a thing offensively and he's the champion of an entire continent. How he was ranked 5 in the world by the WBC is bemusing and practically everyone knew it beforehand. Bellew's team were right to fight him, though, as playing the rankings game does work.Fat Git wrote:I think Bolonti deserves a bit more credit than he is getting on here, he isn't the worst import we have had here, not by a long chalk.
