Dempsey was like Richard Madely. Showed zero feelings and pretty patronising.
"Why didn't you take a 6 or 8 rounder - you're just a fool to yourself"
The team around Ricky were gesturing to just end the interview as he was a broken man.

Duke's a gimme, but think the assessment of t'others is very harsh. Sorry that your night was quite so galling.

My fav was
"all those body punches you have given people over the years and tonight your undone by one yourself"
Like he was trying to stop a 3 year old from crying.

"Rabchenko, that's the man that retired you isn't it Ryan?"
Harsh but fair, imagine if this was your dad growing up

They just moaned and acted superior.
Froch should make at least a little effort to be likeable.

I like Froch. If I'm alone in that I stand chastened.

Dempsey is a tosser. I didn't see the final interview but I thought he was poor throughout.

I thought Dempsey came across as a dick throughout. Constantly referring to Rhodes being stopped by rabchenko and taking the piss. Rhodes should've slapped him. The interview at the end looked like he thought it was his chance to audition as the replacement for piers morgans chat show.

i had been against hattons comeback from the start, recovering from depression is a long haul flight not a shuttle!.. its all still too raw, plus the coke sniffing etc, the BBB of C need their arses kicked for giving him the fighters licence. defeat for ricky last night was the best outcome to be honest, he can now get the help he needs and forget about fighting.

Dempsey was ok in the studio he has to inject a bit of reality and criticism as Rhodes and Paulie were lashing non-stop praise and spin on the proceedings. But, Dempsey bumbled like he was a rabbit caught in headlights - he didnt seem to have anything prepared to ask Hatton and then he blabbed out a load of 'retrospective babble'.
Rhodes should have called it down the line after the fight, at least, but he refused to say the blatantly obvious - Hatton should retire. Woodhall was fudging the obvious as well and Paulie was heartbroken that his payday rematch with Hatton was a goner. That's the problem when you have guys that are too pally with the boxer on as pundits. At least Darke called it right eventually.

Didn't bother me, a breath of fresh air compared to the arse kissing gayfests you get on Sky and allegedly.

I agree...I thought he was patronizing and overplayed the negatives. I also didn't like his earlier studio comment/suggestion surrounding how Ricky had managed to lose the weight. Ryan Rhodes clearly knew what was being implie. I think he was a slimey journalist more interested in the story than the man, which in fairness is what he is. And he had shit hair.

i thought the interview was fair and he managed to get hatton to elaborate the facts etc etc, the comment 'a fool to yourself son' sounded more personal than professional to me.

Why all this spite aimed at commentators / pundits. Every fuckin week no matter which programme on whichever platform do we get this repetitive thread. You could do a cut and paste exercise and just change the names with some posters.

A "normal" interview in that situation was impossible. Hatton had been bawling in the ring a minute earlier. He's just come back from serious depression, alcohol and drug problems. He was pinning everything on this, and it'd just been taken away from him. He was fighting back the tears. Giving him a proper grilling was completely unnecessary.
Further, I got the impression that Dempsey felt genuinely sorry for him, and didn't want to see Hatton embarrass himself.
He could have been respctful and sensitive.
He didn't have to give him some weird pep talk and put his face so close to Hatton's.
He was being creepy and he made me cringe, I felt uncomfortable watching it.
I wasn't watching, just listening. So, I can't comment on their relative head positions, but I didn't hear a pep talk, and repeat that a normal interview would have been impossible. Just what questions could have asked that he didn't?
If you think of the answers he got, he did everything he needed to coax the money quotes out of a mentally disintegrating man without being cruel.
His head was way too close. We were pretty stoned watching the fight and everyone thought Dempsey came across a weird case in the interview.

Bunce on allegedly last night was nothing less than a prick with the whole calling up service stations or whatever else that schtick was.

The one thing I took away from the whole Hatton story this weekend was this: Matt Macklin is a tremendously insightful pundit.
He was clear, erudite and very interesting.
Hope we hear lots of him once he's finished beating up middleweights.
