That's what happened when prime Tyson fought Tony Tubbs. What happened when a near prime fought him? Hmmm.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:

Have you been drinking? Tyson's prime was in the late 80's, so comparing how he performed against Holyfield is not basing it on Tyson's prime is it now Mr Saad?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Ever see Bowe batter a prime Holyfield all over the ring? LOL, don't throw out accusations of Bollocks if you're going to come with some weak ass Fighter A, B & C shit.
Tyson got hungry.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Ever see Bowe batter a prime Holyfield all over the ring? What happened when a past his prime Evander fought Tyson? A stupid post is saying Bowe had punching power as equal to that of prime (pre-Bruno I) Tyson. That is one the most stupid things you have ever typed.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:You didn't make a comparison of the two fighters in their prime. So it's ok with Bowe and against the rules with Tyson? Just another example of how stupid that post was.

This is how I see the fight as wellSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Tyson's only chance here is catching Riddick mid-range, Bowe's jab would dominate outside and Bowe was immensely superior at in-fighting. Mike has a punchers chance, but little more, Bowe by late stoppage.
Too bad he wouldn't fight Lewis, opting instead for Dokes.Esquire wrote:The very best Riddick Bowe was a very special beast. His problem was that his brain couldn't withstand 40 some odd fights without showing very serious damage. He was a monster at his best, and he would have beaten the shit out of a prime Mike Tyson and I believe he would have beaten Lennox Lewis as well.
Some guys have heads as hard as rock and some are merely human. Riddick was merely human. But what a fighter he was. A monster.
Holyfield also KD'd Tyson.jezzamundo wrote:I think there's some credibility to the suggestion that Bowe avoided big punchers. He was also knocked down by Holyfield, whose record as a heavyweight puncher is pretty average. I tend to think his chin is being overrated here - yes he took a hell of a lot of shots from Golota, but Golota wasn't a good finisher (if he was he would have stopped Bowe) and his career best KO was over Danell Nicholson and I don't even know who that is.
Bowe was formidable offensively but defensively very poor for a top fighter. Prime for prime, I think Tyson knocks him out, as Tyson did have an indisputably good chin. Had they fought in 1996 - around the time of the Golota fights - I would probably pick Tyson as well, though with less certainty. This all said, I agree that Bowe poses some definite difficulties for Tyson and would certainly win a good share of the rounds.
For the record, I think Holyfield beats a Prime Tyson.
Wasn't it longer than Tyson's? Aren't we supposed to believe that "Mike" was never the same after losing Cus, Rooney & the gang?BoxBuzz wrote:I've always believed Bowe would win.....prime vs prime....problem is that Bowe's prime was measured in nanoseconds.
Tyson admits that he stopped training properly after Spinks. He had a change of trainer. Issues out of the ring. Etc etc. he would know better than some randoms on a boxing forum.Ambling Alp II wrote:Wasn't it longer than Tyson's? Wasn't "Prime Tyson" already past his prime until he was 23 and got knocked out by by that fearsome puncher Buster Douglas? (Conveniently giving giving his fans the excuse of never losing in his prime?)
We are supposed to throw out the 30-year old Tyson's loss to the shop-worn 34-year Holyfield, aren't we?
I often wonder if Tyson's prime ended in the womb.Ambling Alp II wrote:Wasn't it longer than Tyson's? It's amazing he managed to maintain the same weight without training. Especially considering how much he blew up later in life.keithmoonhangover wrote:Tyson admits that he stopped training properly after Spinks. He had a change of trainer. Issues out of the ring. Since when was weight the only way of knowing if someone has trained properly.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:It's amazing he managed to maintain the same weight without training. Especially considering how much he blew up later in life.
SaadOffTheDeck wrote:It's a good indicator of the condition of a heavyweight. Considering Mike maintained a consistent weight throughout that time leads me to believe he was training like he always was.
Not that it matters, he would lose to Bowe on his best night.
