What I heard from Degale was that he wants to fight six times next year, he wants guys in the world's top 15, he still has plenty to learn in the pro game and at the end of next year he wants to be in a position to fight for the world title.

Isn't that just about the perfect thing for him to be saying.

As for the "he refused to spar Carl" thing. Wasn't that at the height of his dispute with FW, so he probably wasn't even in the gym.

I hope DeGale does fight Froch. Froch humiliates by beating him in every second that the fight lasts.

It won't happen any time soon though. Froch has a Bute rematch, and has been talking about rematching Kessler. He'd also take a second fight against Ward, if he could. (Though might not get it.)

That's at least two fights that Froch will be having before he even considers DeGale.

I've got no problem with Degale calling out Froch as that's what a fringe world titlist should be doing. Could be a nice retirement fundraiser for Froch.

He's no right calling out Froch, Abraham or Ward until he faced the feared Kenny Anderson. If he can beat Anderson a man who's entire reputation is based on scoring a flash knockdown against George Groves (and being 'hard' at the weigh in) a reputation further enhanced with his excellent win over 41 year old ex porn star Robin Reid THEN (and only then) will he be ready to call out the divisions elite.

(In fact a win over Anderson will put him so far ahead of the 12st division he will be ready to call out the Klitschko's)

As a gold medal olympian whose pro career has seen him race to British and European titles, I dont see how he'd benefit from defeating a 41 year old who hasn't won a big fight for 8 years. As for Anderson, he would need to earn the fight in my view, he doesn't bring anything to the table. De Gale would get little credit for pasting the pair of them, which he would do comfortably in my opinion.

And I was being (very) sarcastic regarding Degale fighting Anderson (apologies if this wasn't clear)

James DeGale seems to have turned over a new leaf.

Prior to the Groves fight, he acted like a right knob & made himself look an even bigger twit (with an A) by losing to Groves.

Nowadays he seems much more humble & less insulting.

DeGale is the European Champion & is now on the border of world class, so it's natural for him to call out the World Champion, who just happens to be British & a warrior who doesn't shirk a challenge.

Don't mistake shooting your mouth off for ambition. Anybody can say they want to fight Froch, especially when they know it isn't going to happen.
