What I want to know is why did rocky fight in Russia on Xmas day for no money and why did he give up the title as well?

Definitely up there in the top 5 heavies of all time, especially when we factor courage into the equation. He beat Apollo in the rematch on sheer guts. Showed a lot of guts in fighting Drago in his back yard and against a hostile crowd. His fortitude turned that match (and the crowd) around and then he ended the cold war in his closing speech. No other heavyweight in history could claim to have done anything even approaching that.

I think you have to count Drago. The man would have walked through the division at that time. The fact that there wasn't a belt on the line doesn't really concern me as the fight was about more than a belt. Just wondering what people's thoughts are with regards to Mickey and his training exploits. Where would you rank him in the list of great trainers? To my naked eye he didn't seem to be the best technically but he was fiercely loyal and a great motivator. Always seemed to say the right thing at the right time. Duke (apollo's trainer) appeared far better technically but I think I'd have Mickey in my corner over him.

Mickey didn't want nor have to be technical with Rocky, it was Rocky after all!

As for Drago...to me while the manner of the win is impressive, on paper it really doesn't come down to much...I mean, let's not forget, this was Ivan Dragos FIRST AND ONLY pro fight.

Duke's bald head could also be rubbed mid-fight for good luck. On the flip side he should have done more to stop Apollo getting in with Drago in the first place. He knew Apollo was past it.

I think Duke was under the impression that it was just an exhibition bout. We also have to assume that Apollo's training had gone well despite not looking like he'd done much sparring. Duke will always regret not grabbing the towel and throwing it earlier in round 2. Terrible way for a career to end.

this is the truth... Not many pro athletes slipping, then requiring every ounce of energy to get back up without fatigue.

As for the reversed names, its something I've never noticed. As others have said though, it was likely just for artistic purposes to get a different look. The lettering should have been considered though.

i've checked the boxrec records and i cant find anything on rocky, what was his record ;;-)

If there both on the floor and both struggling to get up , barring the man scoring the knockdown suffer ring an injury like broken ankle , then the fight would of been a draw

Interesting opponents.

Rocky has loads of continuity errors - One that annoys me is they say Apollo was retired for almost 5 years before fighting Drago, yet Rocky and Adrian were married nine years as noted earlier in the film.

They give the impression that the start of one of the Rocky's take place immediately after the end of the previous film. Yet, Stallone continually gets the release date and the fictional date of the movie's wrong. Each - date of Mickey's death should be 1980 if you follow the movie - but announced in Rocky V as 1982 (release year of Rocky 3).

PEOPLE SEEM TO BE MISSING THE OBVIOUS HERE. MOST, IF NOT ALL OF THE PUNCHES THROWN ARE MISSING THE TARGET.

mickey completely changed his style to get the biggest result of his career

mickey goldmill is a legend, still breaks my heart when he dies in rocky 3

Thats correct and he trained Dipper to contendership so thats showing that mickey was a good trainer.

Has anyone noticed in rocky 4 when Drago fights Creed,Creed shouts out 'i want you' to Drago and his hands are wrapped in tape,on his ring walk just before he is gloved up,yes sad i know but i'm only saying

all the Rocky movies are full of errors, just check out on google for Rocky (1,2,3,4,5) movie gaffs.

You are all wrong.

No plot holes as these were documentaries.
