I have seen Cliffys bout with Lovemore Ndou and was thoroughly impressed, another poster (who i think uploaded the video) commented that Sarmardin's fight with Ndou was not even his best performance, that he had seen him numerous times live.
I have heard that Cliff was ripped off a few times and became disillusioned with boxing, which led to his early retirement. A couple of people who saw a good deal of Sarmardin said he could have gone on to great things in the ring.

Thank you scartissue... i enjoy discussing my Aussie boxers but rarely get the chance to do so.... its great to see Hector Thompson get mentioned.... he indeed was a special talent... he never backed an inch against a prime Duran and made more of a impression than the scoring would reflect. There is a dvd avaliable to purchase online called "The Best of TV Ringside" which includes one of Thompson's bouts with NZ boxer Manny Santos, which is a great scrap, has a few more fights too. I found it a good purchase for a cheap price. Those are the only three Thompson fights i have seen... Duran, Cervantes, Santos.

Some heady days of boxing indeed The fight was in the early 80's Charkey would have beaten the pair of them even after several years of retirement. Why he retired is beyond me, he was way too good for the local competition and was making a lot of noise on the boxing scene. There was talk of a fight with Tony Mundine which would have been a cracker. He was also a 'colourful' character outside the ring. I know he once jumped out of a window when the cops raided an illegal bookie joint

One of the fighters in the clip Ken Salisbury, was a Scouser living over here. He was in some good scraps with the locals and I think he won the commonwealth 154 title against an Englishman Nick Wiltshire in about 1984
