Calzaghe is talking big.
That`s Right,BUTTimmbo wrote:If he can carry his handspeed and concrete chin up with him I can only envisage a one sided Calzaghe fight with Johnson getting the odd moments of success.
Remember how quickly Calzaghe can move up the gears when he has his opponent hurt, this will happen!
verdict;- W for JC unanimous PNTs or KO
P:S I dont
I don't think he would beat Jones Jr, but I believe it would be competative and he would give Jones something to think about.$eif wrote:That`s Right,BUTTimmbo wrote:If he can carry his handspeed and concrete chin up with him I can only envisage a one sided Calzaghe fight with Johnson getting the odd moments of success.

He has as much chance of beating Jones as all those other Light-Heavys.
It would be a good payday for Joe and great for UK Boxing in the unlikely event that the fight happened in the UK.
Also love or hate Joe this would show once and for all how good a fighter he actually is.

He's been killing himself for years to make 168, he moves up after 11 defences and it's.....too soon?! There's obviously no pleasing you mate.{amateur} wrote:RJJ would make this little pussy piss.![]()
Sorry for the negative i just can't stand it when people stick up for Joe he is such a pussy he hasn't fought anybody at 168 and moves up too soon before he fights anyone he is such a little girl his tactics suck.
And again sory for the negative.
And who did he ever duck at super middle?

It's very difficult to know why a lot of the fights never happened, certainly Ottke was shitting bricks about fighting Calzaghe, but a hell of a lot of fights never materialised which cannot surely all be attributed to people ducking him.
It all comes down to FW overpricing Calzaghe, and also not taking him to America.

I thought Jones Jnr was pretty lucky against Tarver...maybe Jones is slipping.
Jones is more talented for sure...If Jones is once again lackluster against Tarver...

Quote from a post I made last November in another thread:MightyWarrior wrote:And who did he ever duck at super middle?
To that list, you can also add names like Green, Briggs, Kessler, Magee, Lacy...Eric the Viking wrote:Calzaghe isn't even fighting the better amongst Ottke's castoffs.
Look, Calzaghe is saying he has no more challenges at 168. Well, he hasn't ever fought (and this is only a partial list of top-20 kind of guys):
Ottke
Larsen
Lucas
Mundine
Vanderpool
Echols
Beyer
That's a rather long list of non-challenges right there.
Any one or 2 or 3 of those guys you can probably explain away, but the fact that he fought NONE of them?
Even if Jones again fails to look spectacular vs. Tarver in the rematch, that is still a whole level (or two) above what Calzaghe has ever fought at. So waht if Tarver once lost to Harding, who more recently lost to Johnson? The Harding that beat Tarver was a top light-heavyweight contender, and would've beaten the Welsh off of Calzaghe.bigynzing wrote:Jones is more talented for sure...If Jones is once again lackluster against Tarver...
To use a chess analogy: just because Garry Kasparov looked lackluster and only managed a draw in his most-recent match vs. Vladdy Kramnick, doesn't mean that he wouldn't blow the British prep school champ right off the board if they met.

Well that's a pretty laughable list overall Eric The V. There's no-one there you could accuse Calazaghe of continualy ducking - if there is, can you please tell me who?
Outside of the reluctant Ottke, and the newby Green, these guys have lost every few fights or so ( or are completely unproven )
Joe would deal with this sad bunch of bums inside of a week 8)
Do you really think he's ducking any of these guys? If so, can you tell me who would be a favorite with the bookies to beat him?

If you mean laughable in the sense that Joe's wild-eyed fans talk about him being the shit at 168 and yet he's faced none of those guys, yes, that is pretty laughable.MightyWarrior wrote:Well that's a pretty laughable list overall Eric The V.
I'd be happy if actually dealt with just one or two of those bums, period, instead of hearing the annoyingly repetitive "oh, why should he fight that guy? He'd totally smash him!" from his blindly loyal countrymen.Joe would deal with this sad bunch of bums inside of a week 8)
I certainly don't think think he's ducking ALL of them, but the fact that he's fought NONE of them is really rather remarkable for a guy who's supposed to have cleaned up at 168 and, since he obviously has no more challenges there, has no choice but to move to 175.Do you really think he's ducking any of these guys? If so, can you tell me who would be a favorite with the bookies to beat him?
If he decisively beats the aging warrior Johnson this summer I'll give him some respect, but until that happens it's just hot air, which is of course allegedly's specialty.

Well he's going to smash Johnson, so you better get your membership forms off now Eric
And this "blindly loyal fan" ( and to be honest I'm not even a huge fan ) is still waiting to hear which of these guys would be favorite to beat him?
I think the answer is none......right?
And in terms of a dangerous opponent, I think guys like Mitchell, Brewer, Eubank and Reid top the list of usual suspects you came up with.

Well old Mads couldn't even beat a past it Ottke, let alone a "Prime Ottke" ( if there ever was such a thing ) at least not decisively enough to get the decision. And in one of the years most boring fights too: no wonder the Brit press doesn't mention him.Blue wrote: Mads Larsen has been a top contender for as long as Calzaghe has.![]()
Funny, the Brit press has mentioned very little of him.![]()
I would pick him over Calzaghe as well as Ottke in his prime. 8)
Give Mitchell a rematch…the quick stoppage was tainted.![]()
Anyway, he'll probably get a vacant shot soon, and walloped by someone like Mitchell.

Yeah, that was almost as unimpressive as brave Joe taking on Mgrwejrftre... Mkrtdfkrtui...ah, whatever the hell his unpronounceable name was. Guess old Mhgmsdfgrtrgh was the last real challenge for Joe at supermiddle, though - after all allegedly told us so, so it must be true.MightyWarrior wrote:Well old Mads couldn't even beat a past it Ottke

To be fair Frank wasn't too guilty there, that was just another bizzare WBO rating ( see Zab last fight ) - at least Mgrgrgrgka saved us from the even worse Freeman Barr. Even when Joe hammers Johnson he'll get little credit - he beat an old man, the instant reply.
I hope it's Tarver this year, who he could beat, or even Jones - at least he'd go out on his shield in that one.

Didnt Mads Larsen lose last time he fought in our shores.
At least he fought in your shores,
that’s more than U can say for Calzaghe.
That loss to Ambrose certainly should have qualified Larsen (then 11-1) as an opponent for (then 18-0) Calzaghe.
The point is, both have been rated highly since then (7 years+),
yet Champion Calzaghe has chosen to defend his titles against such household names as Sobot, Thornberry, McIntyre, Jimenez, Pudwill, & Mkrtchian and then claim to the media that there are no more fights at 168 for him.

Yeah, Frank’s no more connected to the WBO (Warren Booking Organization) than old King Kohl.
Not Fast Frankie’s Fault.

That's a nice list of stiffs you came up with, but you don't bother mentioning the genuine top ten fighters he's dealt with too.
Still, no one has told me who he's ducked that was favoured to beat him?
So that's TWO opportunities the two could have met if the promoters had the fans interest at heart.
No stiffs (As U put It.) should ever be fighting for a world title. :(
Eubank, Brewer, Reid & Mitchell were the only legit top fighters he met and the last two should have gotten immediate returns.(A la Tarver-Jones.)
Starie, Sheika, Veit (Now there’s a padded record) and Woodhall were mere fringe contenders served up by the WBO.
No one has told U who he's ducked that was favored to beat him because the real competitive fights were never made.
Frank makes sure of that.
