Since starting this topic I've had a PM from a decent source who says he doesn't have to drag himself down or cut weight before the weigh-in.

I've had a conversation with Rob McCracken about Froch's weight and was told that Froch doesn't have to cut weight or dehydrate pre-fight. He naturally walks around at just over 168 lbs.

I think the proof that Froch doesn't cut weight is demonstrated by his ability to continuously fight 12 hard rounds, fight after fight (except of course when he stops people within the distance).

Froch has always claimed this but when he was beaten by Kessler, he tried using the ash cloud/ not knowing he was fighting affecting his weight excuse. If he was walking around at the weight, it would not have been an issue. For the record, i believe he probably does walk round close to the weight and was just saying this to take the spotlight off him been beat.

Its long been known that Froch doesn't struggle to do SMW at all. In fact I think he barely drains to make the weight and on fight night doesn't blow up like most other boxers. He could probably do Middle, but why struggle a little when you can be comfortable at SMW.

I hear what JLP is saying about SMW meaning more over here than the states, and I agree. But for Froch at the time of his career when he was ready for a world title, Super Middle was where it was at.
