Give the fella a break - his LAST FIGHT - he challenged for a world title against Cotto. Dont talk tosh Stu - and bolding the word 'challenge' makes me spit out my supper in disbelief :OhYes:

Here's around £500m worth of mayweather :-

2014 - whoever beats Andre Berto

2013 - Robert f*cking Guerrero

2012 - Miguel Cotto, a blown up welter, completely battle weary and cashing-out

2011 - Victor Ortiz (did i really write Victor Ortiz?)

2010 - A complete shell of Shane Mosley

2009 - Juan Manuel Marquez - stepped him up from super feather / lightweight territory and paid a fine for skipping catchweight

*retired as Oscar rematch talk gathered huge pace*

2007 - Ricky Hatton , stepped him up to Welter, stuck big gloves on him and brought him home for a beating.

It's definitely an interesting bout. More so than a Karpency or a god awful Jose Ocampo that actually turned people off and gathered massive criticism from all angles.

Rees probably makes no apologies for making a chunk of purse for going over there, and so he should for an American fight on HBO - and yes, it is an outside chance he has.

But as the fight nears it will get boxing fans tuning in to see what the big Broner talk is and they will be cheering Gavin on.

I'd rather see one of our fighters going in against someone perceived as a 'level above' themselves, than seeing some hapless bum brought in for a beating who has no chance at all, wouldn't you agree ?

2013 - Saul Alvarez!

So Cotto wasn't a worthy Light Middleweight champion, even though most rankings had him at #1 at the time of the fight and he had looked pretty good in his 3 outings at Light Middle.

Cotto looked better in his fights leading up to Mayweather at Light Middle, than Mikkel Kessler has looked post Froch - don't hear too many criticise that potential match up.

Blown up welter???? Looked pretty dead at Welter for a few fights if you ask me.

2013 - Saul Alvarez... untested bum caught at the right time!

I do like kell very much actually, but I feel he will just fall short at the elite level, hope he proves me wrong ! By the way I think he beats Alexanda

Saul Alvarez, he's a ginger Billy Joe Saunders ! :D

Mayweather is an unbelievable talent, but his timing of fighting people at the right time / weight, is on par with his timing in the ring - masterful.

He's never faced anyone at their ferocious peak, unless their smaller / from a lower division.

He took one risk, against Oscar - and has been cashing in ever since.

And I say that as a mayweather fan.

Alvarez? Who gives a feck about Alvarez when he's fighting Josephito Lopez and Cotto's brother, Jose. Still, Floyd will duck him - despite being able to whitewash him, Baldomir stylee.

:D

kell will probably get stopped late in this fight

froch v kessler is not looking good as matchroom cant pay kessler the cash
quigg wont fight frampton which is not eddie fault

bellew needs to step up if wants a title then he will be knocked out,

bit premature all this really.

What if Kell wins? I think Kell is a special talent, sure he is inexperienced- but he could pull it off. Even if he loses, its not the end of the line for him, especially if he performs well.

People make far too much of an early loss in a fighter's career - in many cases it's a good thing. Even late in a career, Froch for instance looks a better fighter since losing to Kessler and Ward, far more urgency in his work, and far more spite.

Which is it? That sentence is highly contradictory.
The latter primarily and then then the former but both are contributary factors.
Hope thats cleared that up for you JLP . :TU:

Kell beats Alexander fairly comfortably IMO, providing he doesn't let the occasion and travelling get to him. You can get 13/8 on him with BetFred for any similarly opinioned people as myself

Castillo was near his peak at the time Mayweather fought him. Maybe not ferocious but pretty much the number 1 lightweight at the time and Floyd moved up for that fight.

Everyone forgets, Mayweather desperately wanted Hatton after he beat Tszyu - Mayweather beat Gatti in his first PPV fight and wanted to ultimately land the ODH fight. He called Hatton out as he knew that it was another PPV fight that could build his profile prior to going up to challenge Oscar.

Hatton went on record saying he didnt want Mayweather at the time as he wanted to build his profile in the states and the fight would be worth more in the future. He was right about that. But the fact is Mayweather tried to make that fight happen at Hattons perceived peak.

Mayweather also wanted Hamed, before Naz was beaten by Barrera. Larry Merchant said at the time, though, that Hamed wouldn't want to go anywhere near Mayweather. Floyd would've stood Naz on his head.

Castillo was ten years and he arguably lost their first fight, was given a debatable decision and they rematched. Castillo and Oscar are the last times "Mayweather stepped up" and his career is generally not stellar otherwise.

Also Tszyu took the Hatton fight because Floyd wanted no part of him. He hid behind the "I'm a HBO fighter" argument (whilst Tszyu was on Showtime) to swerve that one.

Even at 35, Kostya was an accurate and dangerous boxer for the likes of Floyd and they all knew it after the Zab fight.

Hatton simply possessed the style and determination at that time to tire old legs. I had the fight even before he retired in the 11th.

Anyway, my point is Mayweather lords it as "No1" when his record suggests he is nowhere near taking risks.

He boxed Ortiz whom had drew with Lamont Peterson only a fight before Berto. And Andre Berto is nothing special either. He was gifted by Collazo, beaten by Ortiz and Guerrero. All fine fighters by the way - but not £100m superstars are they like Pacquiao, Martinez and maybe Alvarez (one day if the hype continues).

Mayweather is the best fighter, he just never wants to prove it.

Is this really going to be another forum year in which almost every topic becomes an FWP VS MR/MR VS FWP debate? It is like Blur VS Oasis all over again. Did you buy the Country Pile by Blur or Roll This Shit by Oasis? Nah, I purchased Tricky’s Hell Is Round The Corner. Like a dude.

Some of yous should listen to the song Age Of Aquarius and kiss a fellow man, open up your hearts to the Absolute etc.
I'm trying to belittle Floyd Mayweather here, do you mind ?

Tricky was lousy by the way too. I could smoke 40 cigs, build up some flem and warble over a trip hop beat better than him any day.
