Fair view. I'd agree re. Rees but not Broner. Maybe I'm missing something and I'll feel like a fool in a year but I honestly think Broner is going to be something special. Very.

I'll be rooting for Rees but I give him no chance of winning a round after the first six minutes and I'd be very surprised if he saw round 9. I think it could be as one sided as Gavin's fight last night and I rate Rees as a legitimate top 10/15 world level fighter.

I don't think that Gavin will win but he jumped at the chance and will do his best. Hope he doesn't start slow as normal as he may get blown away. I think it'll be a good 6 round bout and the way Rees fights I can imagine him going back to the US for another bout - I think the crowd will take to him.

After the DeMarco fight I kinda changed my opinion, Broner looked really comfortable on the inside and he has a real nasty side to him aswell, he looks like he really wants to do damage.

I would also like Rees to win, Ive enjoyed watching his career as i find his style exciting to watch BUT can't really see a way of him winning this. Hopefully i'm wrong.
I think the De Marco fight was very telling. I know he had his limitations and Valero had beaten him up a few years back but I think De Marco v Burns would have been a superb fight, very even. Broner just ruined him, he didn't look like standing a chance outside of the first round. I think Abril and Vazquez are the biggest problems for Broner at 135, just based on styles. Not saying they'd beat him (or indeed that they would beat or are better than Burns, etc) just that they have the potential to mess him about with their styles - in my opinion

The comparison wasnt regarding those fighters, it was an example of british / euro level fighters stepping up to world class and the difference being there for all to see. Lets be brutally honest, for rees to do worse than jenning or locket hed have to spontaneously fold in the first round. The point that was being made was that weve seen "home" fighters jumping up classes and being beaten handily over the last few years. Rees hasnt been near world class for 5 years, broner has been progressing into, and lately operating, in it.

Broner was schooled by De Leon.
Not even close to a schooling. That fight was also a huge step-up for Broner.

Broner was 21 in that fight, de leon was a 43(?) fight vet. Really looking forward to the bill, bika always "entertaining", and banks mitchell will hopefuly have a spark after last outing.

I see this being similar to the Barker-Martinez fight, with the British fighter making a very good account of themselves, only to be broken down by the world class opponent and stopped within 12.

OK, so if I say Rees is going to get crushed I know nothing about boxing.

Guess I know nothing about boxing then because Rees is going to get crushed.

Broner in 4 rounds.

yeah of course he would, cus De Leon is a featherweight and former bantamweight who has done nothing at super feather where he fought Broner who is now a big lightweight :OhYes: not that big a "step up" for Broner as a lot of you are making out, plus, he lost

Jennings or Lockett never deserved those fights, obviously if you grab someone obscure like those two and stick them in with an established champion like Pavlik or bloody prime Miguel Cotto of all people they will get destroyed, but that's got nothing to do with being European or at "Euro level", grab a yank with an inflated record and dubiously high ranking and they would have suffered the same fate, Gavin Rees is legit top ten, Lockett nor Jennings never were

Although i have full respect for Rees, he hasn't beaten a boxer of 'world class' since 2007. And Souleymane M'baye is the only world class name he's ever beaten. No more than Lockett and Jennings.

I do hope i'm proved wrong be Rees and would love to see him win, but honestly i don't see this going 5 rounds now.

Pretty sure, from memory, jennings was #1 contender for the vacant wbo when he fought cotto?!? Cotto had just been defeated by margarito so was far from prime. "Infalted record and dubiously high ranking" ... Hmmmm

Broner wasn't a big lightweight when he fought PDL; he comfortably weighed in below the 130 limit for that fight and several fights thereafter.

Broner was, however, only 21 and very green. Which of his opponents were comparable to an experienced, world-class fighter like PDL? William Kickett? John Revish? PDL has fought successfully at 126, and I don't think that a moving up one division impaired such that he wasn't significantly better than anyone who Broner had fought.

Broner's struggles in the PDL bout stemmed from his unwillingness to throw punches and a general discomfort when he was pressured; because of those weaknesses he was very inactive over the first half and let rounds slip away. His recent bouts suggest that he is much more comfortable when pressured and much more willing to attack, which is not surprising given the experience he has since accrued. Just like Ricky Burns improved since being pasted by Carl Johanneson, Broner has improved significantly since struggling with PDL, so when people reference the PDL fight without context they are introducing an element of analysis that is not indicative of Broner's current form.

I remember PDL fighting ray bautista when ray was about 21. Bautista was supposedly next big thing and would beat PDL. All know what happened there.
Who were last 5 british fighters to fight someone of PDL standard at 21?

I can't think of any. Certainly not in the last 40 or 50 years. Even early bloomers like Hamed and Khan hadn't stepped up to that kind of level at 21-years-old.

see the fight being a bit similar to the kotelnik fight for rees.

he'll give it ago early on and get some decent digs in.

then get busted up. :KO:

see broner getting him out in about 9 rds.

You never even had Rees in your P4P top ten! I would moan every month and you would reply, in short, that he basically did not deserve it.

Rees was in the top 10 when he was the WBA champion.

Top 10 when he was WBA champ, 5 years ago then, and for one fight!!!!

Same question applies ref Jennings to Rees- who has he beaten to get a shot. Im not sure how this angle of the argument has come around anyway. Someone said jenniings didnt derserve a shot at Cotto (actually the title was vacant), but he was ranked #1 at the time. I dont make the rankings.

Long story, short version, its all about levels. Rees is Euro level, broner world class. And just as weve seen time and time again in the past the fighters who we see knocking over british and euro fighters, and looking good doing so, step up, and are beaten handily by true world class operators who we underate (to a degree) because they are fighting better opponents and not looking as good.

Exactly. broner doesnt look good at 21 beating Ponce De Leon. So Rees, who looks good beating Derry Mathews, well, good-ish, will beat him. rees didnt steamroll Andy Murray for the EBU ffs.

Looking forward to this one. Heart wants Rees head says Broner. A bit like my heart says Jessica Alba, but my head says Sonia offa eastenders.
