Macklin is an Irish citizen, holds an Irish passport and considers himself Irish. Not sure why that has pissed people off here so much over the years but that's his choice.

Maybe British boxing fans only like fighters when they drape themselves in Union Jacks?

What I do love is when British fans think that the only reason a British born fighter might consider themselves in any way Irish is to sell tickets - the sheer arrogance of that train of thought is simply astounding. In fact I think it hurts a fighters marketability in the UK if they display any flags or symbols on their attire other than solely the UJ.

The fake irish accent from Macklin is poor though. I grew up as part of an irish catholic community in Coventry and the amount of times i heard lads the same age as me, who were born and raised in Cov, affecting an 'oirish' lilt after a few jars was shameful, doubley so when they began expressing anti-english sentiments. Not suggesting Macklin does that, just a bugbear of mine.

Personally I find it more weird that you have two Irish parents and a sister that lives there but feel no connection with the place. Not knocking you for it, each to their own but I find that odd. Saying that I knew a family in London back in the days, two Irish parents, the daughter would only be with Irish lads and considered herself Irish and the son was a raving BNP member. It takes all sorts.

As for Macklin's Irish accent, personally all I hear is a Brum accent. A couple of world have a tiny hint of Irish to them but what would you expect from a lad with two Paddy rents and spent so much time in Ireland. I never hear anyone having a go at Khan for having a hint of an Asain accent or black londoners talking like they stepped out of the Yard!
