I do like Audley, and would much rather hear him talking than pretty much all of the Sky favourites. Be good to see him as a pundit where hopefully he could relax more and not have the pressure of repeating his mantra to ever diminishing returns. He's a great talker and a funny dude when he wants to be.

That said, how does 82 seconds against Price 'rid him of ring rust'?

Come on sir.
He wasn't lucky at all to win the last one. Barrett won the first round against him granted, but Audley only landed about three punches on Barrett and still had him all over the place when it was stopped, thats not luck at all. And in the other 2 fights he outclassed both guys.

I think if Sosnowski has regressed and Audley can dodge this Walker bloke (who it would seem has big power but not much stamina) in the first round then he may have a chance. But who knows.

He's a good talker Aud, I'm actually looking forward to watching on sat.

You have to respect him for continuing to fight, it takes more balls for a chinny type who doesn't like fighting to step through the ropes than it does for a natural fighter who doesn't mind being hit.

I heard that the latest Saw movie, had a scene of two people trapped in cages and Jigsaw was playing them Audley interviews on loop - but the censors cut it out as it went too far.

Instead they re-filmed the scene, with a chain saw that each individual used to saw their limbs off to escape down a drainpipe before the room exploded.

I hope he actually tries in this Prizefighter, if he gets through the quarters I might throw some money on him. :-?
Unfortunately the lack of respect has come because of his perceived arrogance and constantly making grand claims which he hasn't come close to realising.

He has dug himself the hole unfortunately - he only as himself to blame.

Haye did similarly against Wlad; but it was the first and so far only time he has done that. Plus he regrouped, put together the promised performance against Chisora, and then came across as likeable and smart in the celeb thing, so the Wlad thing is largely forgotten.

Unfortunately Audley has repeatedly played the same record and upset people from the start; and the public are sick of it.

Firstly, I have massive respect for Audley winning an Olympic Gold, but this kind of shit really annoys me.

As a pro he massively underachieved - not even getting to British level IMO.

He boxed for the Commonwealth title - against the British Danny Williams.

He boxed for the European title - against the British Michael Sprott

How boxed for the World title - against the British David Haye.

Not only did he not deserve his European or World title shots - they were all against domestic opposition.
Before you start calling other peoples posts "shit" actually look at what you've just written. What the hell does it matter if you box a domestic fighter for a world, European or Commonwealth title? Are you suggesting that because he fought Haye (who was widely regarded as the 3rd best heavyweight in the world) this somehow devalues his shot? If so you're talking utter rubbish. Was Eubank's first world title win over Benn not valid because Benn was British? Nationality means nothing, it's winning the belt that counts regardless of who holds it.

Also, in reality I'm not sure Harrison did massively under achieve. I don't think that he had the mental strength for the pro game and probably went as far as he could have gone but that's a different argument.

I remember really questioning his confidence with the Julius Francis fight where he did very little and seemed to think he had really achieved something great by going the full 12 rounds. Of course this is a step all pros must take but his attitude to it didn't seem to be a future world champion's (WBF aside).

Post-Lewis the division was very weak and I always thought that if he was as confident as he claimed he would have moved on much more quickly than he ever showed the inclination to.

His talent and hard work took him to Olympic champion status. Ironically, he doesn't really have insane self-belief or he would have gone much further. He just says he has.
I disagree, in his book he talks about how his supreme confidence in himself took him from prison to the gold medal. He used positive visualisation etc. to focus himself, but it all seemed to ebb away as a pro and his confidence was easily dented, perhaps by injury, inactivity and the fact that, as early as his second fight, he found out that some fighters would fire back. Stripped of the head guard, his chin was more exposed and he became more and more gun shy. I don’t think the guy we see now is the same guy we saw in the early-2000s, confidence-wise.
Oh, I stand corrected then re the Olympic triumph - something he deserves enduring respect for, by the way. As you say, he certainly doesn't have insane self-belief now and hasn't for ages, despite constantly saying so.

Your original post does seem to hint that we shouldn't be having a pop at him because none of us will achieve what he achieved. I assume I've got that wrong too

Sounds like he's got a heavy cold, ready made excuse right there. It's gonna sap his stamina after one fight. It's the only thing that's preventing me from putting a few quid on him.

In my opinion, your comment was indeed shit.

You said that "he had a relatively decent pro career (European Champion, World title challenger)" - this may be correct on paper, but it doesn't take Bamber Gascoigne to work out what really went on.

Audley was / is a big draw with the general public. As a result he boxed Sprott for the European title (a title that non of them deserved - as both boxers were below the British title level, this it was more of a Southern Area / English title fight).

Again, because he was/is a good draw, his promoter managed to get him a "world" title shot against Haye.

Audley wasn't even the best heavyweight in London - and yet you believe he was really "European Champion" in the sense that he was the best in Europe ?

My comment also referred to the fact that the recent trend over the last few years is that British boxers tend to fight for Commonwealth, European and World titles - yet only box other British Boxers - how does that work ?

If you are happy for British Boxers to defend their titles against other Britsh boxers and to call themselves World champion then fair enough - keep buying the tickets.

Audley wants Price re-match!!

Don't care what anyone says Harrison is not shit. His talent in attached to a more focussed mind wins a world title easily. Top class jab, massive, ko power, southpaw and outstanding natural athlete. Its a terrible shame he never made the most of it.
