I think the answers to those questions are mainly the fault people are finding with your scenario.

Even if Duran would've trained hard for that fight, I just don't see him beat the Hitman at 154lbs. It was a wrong weight class for Duran. Twenty pounds above his natural weight for his 5'7" frame. Plus, Duran was already in decline after the No Mas.

I think the answers to those questions are mainly the fault people are finding with your scenario.
That be true, too. However, I think in Conn's day even when he abandoned 160, he could have made the weight of 154, because he was a small framed man to begin with. Prime MW-LHW Conn, going for a catchweight fight of 154-159 against someone like Hearns, I'd venture to say would have given Hearns a real run for his money.
