His team have already steered him away from Broner twice so a third time wouldn't surprise me.Manchester Hitman wrote:If Burns doesn't fight Broner now it will look very bad for him IMO.
At least under Fwank he had a bit of protection- now if he joins Eddie and starts fighting the same calibre of opponents

The problem seems to be Alex Morrison, who is against a Burns / Broner fight.
If Warren has been in favour, as has been reported, I wonder if he will be tempted to wash some dirty laundry in public by speaking openly about this sort of thing ?

Macho,
You have stolen my thunder !
I don't think at this moment in time he is remotely interested in Management / Promotion.
Wazza is a businessman.
Look at his reaction to Groves departure and the cessation of the Bellew Court action.
Ever seen the man so laid back on such issues ? Never.
He will be focused upon making B nation saleable and thereby cash his chips in.
The "product" on B Nation is irrelevent - it could be showing ballroom dancing.
If the TV company gets sold to what would seem the obvious candidate - Vision - then as a businessman RESULT !
Promotionally I think he'll leave that to the lads if their interested.

Re: Burns leaves warren
I think he will. Ownership of the sport's only dedicated boxing channel is worth more - in the right hands - than owning promotional contracts with a handful of main event level British boxers, because there will never be enough alternative TV outlets to keep all the other promoters in business.MachoMan09 wrote:I wonder if FW has considered chinning the promoting game off* and just concentrating on building the TV station? There are tens of promoters domestically and hundreds of promoters around the world who want their shows on TV. Frank can provide that opportunity for them.
*with the possible exception of one or two supershows per year involving Haye types.
It may lead to a focus on quantity rather than quality, ie televising less grand shows, but showing lots of them to keep the BN subscribers happy.
Re: Burns leaves warren
Hello gents, been a long time! I think for what it's worth that FW is in serious trouble! Who does he actually have now?! Cleverly who doesnt have a big profile and Gavin and Billy joe saunders and thats basically it! That isnt enough to consistently do big shows! As for him being a businessman and building allegedly in and then cashing in his chips, well surely he should be making big signings to make the channel for appealing and thus get more subscribers and thus more business! Not losing your big name fighters until you hardly any left. All thats going to do is lose the channel subscribers and no potential buyer is going to want to buy a channel that looks like its going downhill rather than on the up unless it has real assets which allegedly doesnt look like it has. This could be FW biggest fight! With Matchroom and eddie hearn on the ascent, is this the passing of the guard like when FW came on the scene when Micky Duff and co were the top dogs?!

Would anyone argue that Nathan Cleverley, as a world champ, is less of an attraction, is less well known, and has less momentum, than was the case two years ago ? I think that is a fair thing to say and that is pretty damning on the guy meant to be his promoter....
Re: Burns leaves warren
True. Thats a valid point. Im just saying that at the moment his channel is getting less appealing rather that more appealing due to the fact he is losing his big name fighters.MachoMan09 wrote:If he can fill his TV schedule and increase subscribers, it doesn't really matter who W. Re: Burns leaves warren
Yeah ok big names is stretching it but in terms of his stable I meant. You're probably right, I think he could make a success of the channel if he just focused on getting the biggest fights possible from around the world but im not sure if his ego will allow him to just drop out of the promoting game! Also I read somewhere that his promotional company is supposed to be £4 million in the hole. No idea if that is true or not but if it is then it doesnt look good for him.MachoMan09 wrote:Groves & Burns? Are they big names, really? The international fare on Allegedly channel is its chief appeal, for me. Re: Burns leaves warren
For you, yes, current BN content is sufficient, but the likes of you (hardcore boxing fans who know about the German boxing market ad are interested in Abril v Bogere) are already subscribed. And there's not enough of you to make the channel a financial success. So there's two options to make the channel more attractive - either increase the number of recognisable names featured on the channel to make it more attractive to "casual" fans or to offer a broader scope than just boxing, MMA, etc.MachoMan09 wrote:Groves & Burns? The UK boxing market is too shallow in terms of potential subscribers and high level talent to make a subscription boxing channel viable, IMO. It needs to be part of a wider package and it needs to be reliable (with respect to pull outs, competitive cards, consistent domestic action).

what is Rickys contract with Warren, it could be a fight by fight contract meaning he is a free agent. I hope so.

Shame the last few months havent panned out for Ricky the way they should have. Rick now finds himself in a good position and will likely find himself the target of a bidding war.
Whatever the price he gets, I hope there's a little bit of compassion inside him to remember the absolute sterling work that Wazza done for him.

Re: Burns leaves warren
I'd rather have boxing on a dedicated boxing channel. MMA appeals to me about as much as football or cricket, I wouldn't pay for it.
I just want to pay monthly and see all the televised boxing. First company to do so gets me as a lifelong customer.
I'm curious how the Burns situation will play out, who will he fight next and when?
If all this is simple and clear cut - I'd say it's uncharacteristic for boxing.

He could just be coming to the end, here. But he could rise again. Eddie Hearn just can't sign everyone, it will be to hard to keep them all happy and all active. He's probably at his limit now.
Mick Hennessy doesn't get enough respect in my opinion, the guy has delivered quality cards, on terrestrial tv and has now got Tyson Fury headlining at MSG live on NBC in the states. He's still chugging along. People forget when Warren was churning out rubbish WBU fights on SKY and we were all complaining, Hennessy was quietly taking his fighters through the 'traditional' route of British, Commmonwealth, European and WBC world title shots. Eddie Hearn seems to be getting all the praise these days.
Frank will rise again in some form, there's fight in the old dog yet.

Yes, an Steve Goodwin doesn't get an ounce of real recognition and his fight cards are very good - good fighters who are well matched and want to win.dbf wrote:He could just be coming to the end, here. Surely Golden Boy would be best move for Burns. Defends WBO title on Khan bill, that sets up Broner fight in September/October.

allegedly should always have concentrated on fill up it's schedule with deals internationally (i.e. deals with TYC Sports in Argentina, and Thailand 7 etc etc) and with a variety of British promoters rather than been about Warren's shows which were on the whole god awful. Hopefully this will push that 1 step closer.

Oh well they had a pretty good run under Wazza promotions.
Surprised he didn't take the big $$ fighting Broner I always got the impression that Ricky would fight anyone

It's nothing to do with who is top of the bill, it would get him live on Showtime in the US, thus build the Broner fight and make him more than just the opponent, which is what he is right now
