How does Haye have the 'perfect style' for Povetkin? He's not 40 nor obese.

Very unlikely, and not very patriotic, but I'd love to see Haye KO'd

Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
I thought I read in the Telegraph yesterday that he was on the verge of retiring (again) as he'd simply not heard a jot from Vitali and he isn't interested in any other fights.
Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
I'm not a fan of Poveetkin personally.
Haye would beat him.
Dare I say it, A-Farce (assuming he turned up like he did at prizefighter) would be a good bet to beat Povetkin. In my eyes anyway.

I'd prefer Haye Vs Fury
Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
Povetkin is past it and was never that great in the first place. Has any other unbeaten fighter ever looked less in love with boxing?
I'd fancy a Haye stoppage at this stage.

haye would destroy him, fury or harrison should be trying to get that fight.Kilburn wrote:Povetkin is past it and was never that great in the first place. Has any other unbeaten fighter ever looked less in love with boxing?

Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
When was the last time Povetkin tackled a winner, a young fit aggressive man throwing hard fast knockout shots?
Oh that's right, never.
I think Valuev would probably outpoint Povetkin, that's how awful he is.

Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
God I forgot about the Marco Huck fight - and Huck made him look like crap. Really struggled with Huck's aggression and Haye is a bigger hitter. If Huck had come in closer to 200lb he might have broke Povetkin.
Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
As far-fetched as it ought to sound, I can really see Audley getting the gig with Povetkin and actually outpointing him in dull style over 12 rounds.
Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
I thought Huck won that fight, and on that basis, I'd take Haye to beat him comfortably.

Are you really trying to tell me that a guy that's lost to pretty much every good fighter he has fought can beat a guy that has beaten everyone he has fought, including Eddie Chambers, Chris Byrd and Ruslan Chagaev.earsjohn wrote:As far-fetched as it ought to sound, I can really see Audley getting the gig with Povetkin and actually outpointing him in dull style over 12 rounds.
Povetkin always finds a way to win. Harrison knows how to lose and frequently does against opponents much worse than Povetkin.
Style wise, Povetkin can handle southpaws, Harrison struggles against anyone half decent.
Harrison doesn't throw enough punches to win on points and Povetkin takes a hell of a shot.

Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
Povetkin is in decline and has never been impressed. Byrd and Donald were spent, Chambers just seemed to give in and reveal himself to be a front runner, and Chagaev... Chag tamely offered himself up as a punchbag for Wlad and had been a fading force, for whatever reasons (...), by the time Povetkin got by him on an MD.
Povetkin really isn't that good, he's pretty passionless and has had his hands full with some underwhelming opposition. He would be a big favourite over Audley but I don't believe it would be impossible for the big man to pull out.

Explain to me how you think Audley could win. He doesn't throw enough punches to win on points and wouldn't knock Povetkin down. The only chance Audley has is if Povetkin twists his ankle gettting in the ring!loaded_gloves wrote:Povetkin is in decline and has never been impressed. Keith have you changed your mind that Povetkin would beat the Klitchsko's? You don't seem quite so confident of him these days..keithmoonhangover wrote:Explain to me how you think Audley could win. If he trains properly, which I think he will, then he'll knock Wlad out. No doubt in my mind. I've got the money I won betting on Jonathon Banks beating Seth Mitchell sitting waiting for me to bet on that KO.Final round wrote:Keith have you changed your mind that Povetkin would beat the Klitchsko's? Banks beating Mitchel isn't quite on the same prediction richter scale as Povetkin kayoing Wlad Keith but stick to your guns matekeithmoonhangover wrote:If he trains properly, which I think he will, then he'll knock Wlad out. Funnily enough It wasn't that long ago that Haye was being slated (by some quarters) for not taking on a Povetkin or Arreola, before getting a fight with Wlad suddenly now Povetkin is being touted as a possible opponent he's not good enough and Audley could beat him!

Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
In my opinion Haye is a level above every active HW besides the Klitschkos; he's very fast, punches very hard, and he boxes skillfully and intelligently when he chooses to do so, helping offset chin and stamina problems he may have. He can be overly tentative, but usually against opponents who are much bigger than him, which isn't the case here.
Povetkin is a tough fighter who wins usually by bullying and outworking opponents; he's a good combination puncher, physically strong, and has generally shown a good chin and solid stamina, though he tired very quickly against and was hurt easily by Huck. However, he's slow, easy to hit, not a hard puncher, and moves straight forward; I think these qualities play into the hands of the back-foot, sharpshooting style that Haye's adopted as a heavyweight, as he can score without frequently taking the initiative and being forced outside his comfort zone, and he can have plenty of time to seek openings as Povetkin wades in and plenty of opportunities to counter if Povetkin actively attacks. Most of Povetkin's wins have also come over stationary opponents, and I think he will find it difficult to set his feet for his combinations against an opponent who moves like Haye, while Haye has frequently shown that he can be effective against opponents with Povetkin's style.
Although opponents similar to Povetkin have done well against Haye in the past, I think Haye now paces himself well enough that he doesn't tire to the extent that he struggles to effectively defend and attack (e.g. Thompson), and his attacks will probably sap much of Povetkin's energy too. While Haye has shown chin problems in the past (e.g. Mock and Mormeck) he got up to win, he took some good right hands from Klitschko without being hurt, and he is more defensively committed than he previously was, making it harder to land damaging punches; even the best HW in the world found it very difficult to hit him cleanly.
So, I think Haye beats Povetkin and does it convincingly. I see it being similar to the Chisora fight, with Haye boxing effectively off the back foot and finding openings as his much slower and less skilled opponent comes forward. I expect Haye's punches to have an additive effect rather than a sudden, decisive impact as they did against Chisora, leading to a stoppage in the mid-late rounds.

Re: David Haye to return to face Alexander Povetkin?
I think people are going overboard in picking Harrison to beat Povetkin. Audley looks great in three round fights against C/C+ level opponents, but that doesn't suggest he'd enjoy similar success at a much higher level in a much different format. Povetkin, for all his flaws, has still beat much better opponents than Audley, and has struggled only against world class opponents.Final round wrote:Banks beating Mitchel isn't quite on the same prediction richter scale as Povetkin kayoing Wlad Keith but stick to your guns matekeithmoonhangover wrote:If he trains properly, which I think he will, then he'll knock Wlad out. At this stage Povetkin is the best opponent Haye could face apart from the Klitschkos and possibly Pulev and Fury (yes, I think Fury is that good).

Yeah I like Aud but we've seen his level which is no bad thing he can do a job at that level and good luck to him but Povetkin would work him over.crusader wrote: I think people are going overboard in picking Harrison to beat Povetkin. Haye v Fury would actually be pretty exciting although I think Haye would stop him and Pulev would be a dangerous opponent
