Its not a true market. If it does get made, it will be nothing like that. Price will be a heavy favourite to beat Thompson, though.SteveDow wrote:Interestingly enough, as a gambling man I was quite surprised to see the odds of Price to beat Fury shorten from a best price of 4/11 before the Thompson fight to a best price of 2/7 after the Thompson fight. Not sure what the logic was there.

Using headgear this time scouser?
Re: Price v Thompson 2
Price does a job on him second time round. And then nobody speaks of the blip again. Brilliant decision!

Re: Price v Thompson 2
Even if Price does a number on him, which is very unlikely, it won't wipe a knockout loss from his record just yet.
Fair play to Price. Jumping straight back in there with the man who stopped him. Might be a decision he regrets but I hope he can pull out the win.
Need to drop to chat about 'setting the record straight', 'righting wrongs' etc
Price didnt lose via a dodgy decision, or a lucky, "freak" shot. He got stopped fair and square. His cheerleaders need to accept it and move on. This is his chance to gain revenge and kick start his career again.

Re: Price v Thompson 2
Best step for Price to take this. To get Thompson back over means Pricey clearly won't be getting a big payday which is a credit to him. Problem he's got this time tho is Thompson brings confidence over with him. I see nothing more than a Price win in the middle rounds after being sensible early on.
Re: Price v Thompson 2
Very true. I get the impression that Price's focus sometimes switches to being unpredictable with his hands to the point where he stops paying as much attention to what's coming back at him - dangerous against a wily opponent like Thompson. He'd do better to stick a good hard jab in Thompson's face for 5 or 6 rounds before trying to get clever.mickey1975 wrote: He will only tire him out if he actually throws punches, even a jab, instead of the constant feinting.

Surprised that a few people are questioning the big man taking this fight considering the grief we all (rightly) give Khan about not fighting Prescott.
I'm confident he'll get the job done this time with a more focussed game plan. If he can't then the big title fights he dreams of are probably never going to materialise

Ben did you not hear price himself say his chin wasn't the best on sky ?Ben Carey wrote:But from the amateurs, not from the Thompson loss, he was nailed on his temple behind his ear.MightyWarrior wrote:Brave. The jury is definitely in on Price's chin.
Any heavyweight that goes after Price will be looking to test that china again .
This fight is sh!t or bust for Price .

Well said. I agree a fighter cannot truly move on until he has avenged a defeat. There will be a lot of pressure on the big man. To prove that the kayo really was a freak occurance.freddydoesdallas wrote:Surprised that a few people are questioning the big man taking this fight considering the grief we all (rightly) give Khan about not fighting Prescott.

I for one think it was. Heavyweight boxing throws up results like that. Thats why it is still the division everyone still watches.
Re: Price v Thompson 2
Like everyone (even Price himself) I suspect Price's chin is SUSPECT, but the shot Thompson landed didn't prove that. He got done with a shot to the temple - it was unfortunate and it does happen. David Haye very nearly lost to Lolenga Mock many moons ago in a similar type scenario. There are lots of heavyweights who have succeeded despite having fragile punch resistance - Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Corrie Sanders and Big Frank all spring to mind.mrpedigree wrote:Ben did you not hear price himself say his chin wasn't the best on sky ?Ben Carey wrote:But from the amateurs, not from the Thompson loss, he was nailed on his temple behind his ear.MightyWarrior wrote:Brave. This fight is sh!t or bust for Price .
Key for Price is developing and utilising a potent jab to keep opponents at bay and set up his attacks. I think his easy recent victories had made him a tad complacent in that department but he's bound to be more cautious going forward. Thompson, whatever kind of shape her turns up in, remains decidedly beatable and I think Price will win the rematch.
Re: Price v Thompson 2
Fair play to Price, I would have put money on this fight not happening next.
Although FM says Price demanded the rematch I wonder if this is really the case - could it be a case of FM sh!t or bust approach ? - he has spent so much money on him the last few years he might as well give him one last chance before he spends any more money on him, if he loses he can cut him loose.

Re: Price v Thompson 2
It's the only fight that makes sense at the moment, if he wins he gets his confidence and a big chunk of his reputation back, and it's a very winnable fight indeed.
Re: Price v Thompson 2
Very pleased about this. Price backing up his own words/excuses (depending on how you see it).
I for one didn’t want to sit back for 10 months watching Price paste people below his level.
This is a great match up and a really tense fight. I expect Price to be much more guarded…making everything tense and the rounds early on will be close. He’ll want the big shots to flow naturally from positions he’s boxed himself into (which is how it should be)…if/when Thompson puts together back-to-back winning rounds things will get very, very interesting for David.
In taking this fight though Price is showing himself to be the kind of fighter we should want to succeed.

Ben are you blind and deaf ? that little punch didnt hit Price on no temple .Ben Carey wrote: Like everyone (even Price himself) I suspect Price's chin is SUSPECT, but the shot Thompson landed didn't prove that. He got done with a shot to the temple - it was unfortunate and it does happen.
Go watch the rerun of that fight ,Price got KOed by a little punch that landed on that back of the neck more than anywhere ,even his mate Paul smith that was commentating on the fight at the time said it was a punch on the back of the neck as did John Rawlings .
Why are nut huggers so blinded ? there have been a ton of fans that watched Price in the AMs and warned everyone that Prices chin was gammy !

Good stuff. I hate it when people say he's brave after losing the first time! Boxing needs more people like this willing to fight and not fight nobodies chasing pay packets and attention (Chisora)
Re: Price v Thompson 2
I really hope Price wins impressively but it's hard to be optimistic seeing how he dropped like stone from a punch that really didn't look like it was launched with KO intent.
A safety-first points win will only partially repair Price's reputation as the expectation will be for Price to be exposed again as soon as he faces a reasonable combination of speed and technique.

The man who has fought Fury, Helnius, Vitali and Haye? Yeah, the sport needs to get rid of these pretenders taking on nobodies!

Especially compared to Price's level of competition too. The only fighter on his record that is in the top 40 worldwide is Thompson, the man who knocked him out!

Sorry I never made clear what I meant ( I was on the train going home). I commend Price for taking the fight against Thompson instead of padding his record (fighting nobodies - Not Chisora), instead of chasing the pay packets and arguably a fight that would garner more attention (Chisora).

I look to see Price get KOed again ,ether in this next fight or down the line...chin ent there
Re: Price v Thompson 2
This, for me, is bang on mate. For all the "lucky punch, it happens" type comments, how often does this type of ko happen to top fighters. Lewis got nailed, twice, full on the chin by decent punchers, not the same as Thompson's short punch to the ear hole. It was never a "temple" shot either...Ratchet Exits Nu wrote:Price has a suspect chin/resistance.
When was the last time a top flight fight ( this was not) ended like this? Aan open gloved punch behind the ear?
The man has a suspect chin... get over it.
That said, kudos to Price (and TT) for taking the immediate rematch. I hope he wins and moves on. A Wlad style change of approach could still see him succeed at the highest level, he might be less exciting from now on though.
