How about that octogenarian who scored it 11-1 Lewis? What a guy!
11-1?

Random thought ...wouldn't it be great to have Lewis around today. Imagine the wars he would have against the Klitschkos. It would have made an epic series of fights!

A peak Lewis destroys Wladimir early (only thing 'epic' about it would be the level of Wlad's humiliation) and beats Vitali in a competitive fight.

I'm all for those outcomes, but if he fought each brother say 3 times, some varied and interesting results may have occurred. Vitali definitely the tougher challenge with his chin and staying power.

He'd be 6-0.

Reckon he'd slip up at least once.

How would Lennox slip up against Vitali?
We already know a fat, old, ill-prepared Lewis can take Vitali's best, full bloodied right hand square on the chin and take it.
How else does he slip up? Is Vitali going to outbox him? He couldn't outbox the the version of Lewis pushing 40.
And Wlad - it would be Sanders-like. It would be over before he got the chance to let his shots go. Wladimir lets power punches go only when the opponent in front of him is totally done, exhausted from eating jabs and hauling around 30-40lbs of flab. No comparison.

Yeah, there was no 11-1 scorecard. The scorecards were 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111. I think the 117-111 scorecard is just as bad as Eugenia Williams's scorecard for the first fight.

Sorry, I thought Bill Graham scored it 119-109 to Lewis - his real score is still terrible, given the close nature of the bout.

Yes any close rounds in the rematch were automaticly given to Lewis, even Lennox years later said pretty much the same and that the fight was much closer than the scorecards made out. Also i remember when Holyfield lost his titles to Bowe in 92 the SKYSPORTS anchor who was presenting the show and was SKYs boxing producer,i think his name was Gary Norman or something,he kept on and on Holyfield was finished and should retire or perhaps be just an opponent for others to build there careers haha twat.

Seriously though…Holyfield’s career was like that. He looked done and dusted and then he’d be reborn. Tyson fans should remember just how finished he looked pre-Tyson fights.

The greatest thing about being a die hard Holyfield fan was the belief. I'll never forget watching the 3rd Bowe fight with a room full of people cheering against him. I was a massive target until Bowe hit the canvas.

Emmanuel Steward in an interview with a Detroit newspaper a few years ago pretty much conceded that the scorecards were generous. He also said Lewis was lucky to get the decision vs Mercer.

As much as I'm a fan of the K brothers, I gotta agree with this. Pretty hard to imagine Vitali ever having a better chance to beat Lewis than the one he got. An old, ill-prepared Lewis was still able to get the job done. An immediate rematch would've been interesting, but you gotta assume the Lewis from the late 90's would beat Vitali every time as well.
I think if Lewis is in there with the modern day Wlad they're both very patient trying not to get caught and boxing carefully. The problem for Wlad is, Lennox is the superior boxer. I just can't see Wlad ever beating Lennox.

Yes i had Mercer winning that fight, remember watching it whilst having a lock in at the bar a drank in,i was furious with the verdict and arguing for ages with the landlord who was an ex boxing coach who said Lewis won clearly,it was only him me and my mate there so we said to my mate who do u agree with and he sided with the landlord,on our way home he told me Mercer did win but he didnt want to disagree with the landlord because he was on a bar tab hahaha

Sanity finally reigns. Lennox would beat wlad 20/20 and Vitali 19/20. He is a better fighter. Holyfield beats both brothers. I wish they were around today.

But Lewis didn’t beat Rahman or McCall 20/20…sorry, I forgot, they would both crush Wlad and Vitali in 11 seconds flat.

Both those losses were down to complacency, of which he avenged plus tax.
Did Wlad avenge his losses? Nope, he got his older brother to do it for him.
I remember the corner pulling Wlad out of one fight cause they could see he was gassed and didn't want anyone to see hom on his arse. When he did lose he made excuses.
Lennox took his loss like a man and went back and avenged in style. He wouldn't be complacent against either of the K bros and would probably beat Vitali on points comfortably and stop Wlad in three rounds ala Razor Ruddock.

He wouldn't beat them 20/20. He couldn't beat Rahman or McCall 20/20. Who can argue with that?
