nah winning the ABAs dont waulify you for olympics otherwise we would have alot of representitives.

not quite sure how it works. the amateur boxing association may be allowed to pick one or two fighters...i'm not sure. somneone who knows more about amateur boxing could answer that one.

In Europe you got 3 chances to qualify for the olympics.
The top 4 in the european championships.
Top 2 in one of the other 2 tournaments (one in Poland/bulgaria and one in Azerbadjan/Sweden). Except for heavyweight and superheavyweight, there its only the winner that qualify.

That means that boxers/countries that havent qualified for the olympics yet still have 1 chance left.

The americans havent qualified a full team yet. Before the last tournament which starts this weekend they still need to qualify in the 54, 57 and 64kg divisions.

Yeah they take place at the same time. Its 5 divisions one place, 6 the other just like its 6 in Bulgaria and 5 in Poland

People are chosen for olympic qualifiers at England's discretion. There has been much outcry over this as "favourites" usually get picked.

Murtala Abdusalem was the name of the guy I was thinking of. He looked really good at the ABAs. Is he trying for Olympic qualification?

He's nigerian anyway, but I'm not sure.

Abdulsalem didnt qualify a spot for Nigeria (all african qualifying tournaments are over)

I've just seen him box for england, so i don't know.

He beat Husynov to scoop not only the lightweight title but he was also awarded the Strandja cup. This is a fantastic acheivement for England's no.1 lightweight

Yes thats right. He does seem to have had a big turn around in form. Perhaps he had an interupted preparation for the euros, or merely the occasion "got to him". regardless, he seems to have left that form behind and it's all go to Athens....!

No british fighters qualified for the semifinal in the olympic qualification tournament in Gothenburg, Sweden. Following division competes in Sweden: 51, 57, 64, 75 & 91kg.
The last qualifing tournament in Baku Azerbadjan will start on monday.

Yeah, Repton middleweight Darren Barker was 'outclassed' by the Hungarian, Nathan Brough lost his first bout, David Dolan's abissmal form continues as he was also 'outclassed' – this time by Irish heavyweight Alan Reynolds. Flyweight Stewart Langley won then lost and David Mulholland (featherweight) also lost.

Both Dolan and Price have been beaten and will not get to go to the olympics. So far Amir Khan is the only english fighter that qualified. Darren Langly will be fighting Jeyhun Abiyev, I don't think Darren has much of chance in that match up. Neil Perkins has to fight a italian then if he wins he might have to fight Bulent Ulusoy. Ulusoy has already beaten Perkins in another tournament.
