He's done tremendous despite absolutely everything being stacked against him, he can defo hold a portion of a world title if he can get better and better.
Martinez is done now, Golovkin seems the heir apparent - but the rest of the division is up for grabs and will wide open.
They'd have to pay Geale a lot to come over here I reckon, especially seeing as he's the champion.

I was disappointed in Murray if i am honest,You can't expect to win a a world title in another mans yard and you not throw enough punches ..which Murray never.

If he would've thrown more and opened up more he would've got KO'd by the harder punching and much faster man.... I thought he fought about as perfect as he could've and just wasn't good enough to win by the sort of margin he needed to in order to walk away with the decision.

Great performance by Murray, proved he belongs at the top level at his weight and will hopefully get other chances.
If I was his trainer and him, I'd be a bit disappointed today, I thought Martinez was there for the taking, he didn't look fully fit and looked tired by 6 rounds.
I think if Murray had really piled it on in rounds 11 and 12 he might just have nicked it, I'd have sent him out just to go all out for the Ko in those last 2 rounds. It was too close for him to ever get a decision in Argentina, much as the politics of boxing sucks.

He needed to keep the momentum of the middle rounds going through the last couple but seemed to slow down. Great effort though.

Easier said than done in a hostile environment of 40-50,000 Argentinians screaming for your blood and number 3 pound for pound who battered macklin, dissected barker and completely schooled Chavez in his last bout give the lad some credit, Martinez is very strong with his overhand left and right hook which he can finish you with 1 shot!! Martin knows he could of done even better knows we're he went wrong but what a hell of a fighter to do what he did in these circumstances give him credit when due

Also heard the ring collapsed immediately after the fight which if true could have been very dangerous .

Yes was great up until the night, I think many fighters would of crumbled but martin was very focused the ring was rushed with jubilant fans of Martinez which I think may of caused it to collapse had Martin nicked the fight we would of had very dangerous situation shame for Gary buckland to, Argentinian tv had martin winning by 1round the crowd was very quiet most of the fight with some anxious moments which I think swerved some desicions like the 2nd knockdown and Martinez getting away with complaining and resting

I'd like to see Martinez retire now, his reactions are slowing and he's getting beat up without actually losing the fight nowadays.
Murray put in a very good performance, if that fight was on these shores i think he'd of got the decision, it was one of those fights. Bit unlucky not to get the 2nd knockdown counted by the ref, you could see the way Martinez dragged himself up from it proved it was a kncokdown.
Martinez also proved what experience can do for a boxer, he managed the ref well and dug deep in the last rounds, Murray will look back on the fight and maybe feel he let it drift a bit in the 10th and 11th, which Martinez won to take him to a narrow lead (at least on my scoring).
Murray is now in line for some more big fights at middle, all the belt holders are good quality with Geale, Quillin and Golovkin. So some really attractive fights to be had there.
Gald you all got out of the arena ok last night Matko, looks like it was a bit 'lively' there.

Just got around to watching the fight, what a solid performance by Murray. Well disciplined, economical and scored well with his shots. Being a little to hesitant in the championship rounds let it slip but a bit of recklessness and Martinez has the power to get the job done so it's a thin line and a missed chance in the end but It was an impressive showing on such a big stage in front of a partisan crowd.
HBO commentary team were hoping a Martinez highlight KO and 'blamed' Martinez for the choice.!

I had it 114-113 Martinez but Murray put one a hell of a show. I feel that the rounds Murray won were more convincing that most of Sergio's but in too many rounds he just didn't throw enough punches. He definitely has to be considered as one of the best in the division now.

martinez should not retire.
we all know what he did, taking chavez jr and murray fights - dangerous opponents, both - when not fully fit.
martinez had put in stonking performances, wanted the fancy events - chavez on PPV and murray in argentina.
martinez got the attractive events, but had made a compromise, taking fights when not fully healed.
like a champ, he still won, in competitive fights. i don't think he'd recovered from the macklin fight. macklin boxed and fought better than any of sergio's opponents, and sergio really had to dig deep to stop that long, hard fight getting away from him. sergio closed that contest in serious style but he's not been the same since.
give the man a break. let, say, murray and chavez beat the shit out of each other for a piece of the WBC title. take a rest, slow down, beat up the mando (rubio)to reclaim the belt, and then see what's out there, see the bigger picture. but before all that, get well.
