Problem is that at 38 and with injuries Martinez will never be 100% yes he may have felt fine but this wasn't the same fighter we'd seen before.
Was part of that problem not because of gameplan and tactics

Let me guess, Macklin fought the best ever version of Sergio?

Murray outdid his domestic counterparts against Sergio. Also at least matched Macklins effort against Sturm.

Hopefully we see all three fight each other.

Just had a idea. Don't laugh at me people, but how about Murray, Macklin and Barker engage in some fights with each other and then we can see who is the best. Sounds a bit silly really doesn't it. Forget I said anything.

Art of war - silly you !
Fight history proves itself ,he did better than both of them so he doesn't need too prove anything

1 nut,
You put forward views that create the very scenario that proper boxing fans criticise year after year after year.
If he's the best get in the ring and prove it.
Same message to Barker and Macklin.
Performances mean nothing at World level, its results that count.
Martin has had two shots and not won either.
That is the cruel reality of the game of snakes and ladders that is boxing.
Get it on. A three way UK tourny and the winner can go on and have another crack at a World title.
On the issue of money - I think you'll find such a tourny would generate a handsome payday across the two fights.

It's down to the three of them to PROVE who's the best by GETTING IN THE RING.

Not the best ever but certainly a better version than Murray fought (I'd say the best version was the one who git jobbed to Cintron and Williams though others may disagree). The Chavez fight left him needing surgery and having damage to his knee, ankle and hand whilst he spent a fair bit of time out they will likely not be the same as they were pre-Chavez.

Much like Hatton v Tszyu, Hatton may have won but that bout took a lot out of him and his punch resistance was never the same. The post-Chavez Martinez will never be the same fighter.

Similar tactics to those employed by the other two. Sergio himself looked slower, he looked less sharp, he even looked less mobile. All traits of being 38 and coming in on the back of the injuries to his knee and ankle. Well done to Murray for employing the tactics that we've seen frustrate Martinez and doing them better than the other two men did but again this didn't look like the same Sergio. Men who rely on their wheels will not be the same fighter after knee injuries (a partially torn meniscus for example) and neither will they be the same fighter at 38 as they were in their mid 30's.

As mentioned pitting them in bouts together would be the best idea and the only way to really see which is best, though it seems they are all happy to avoid that situation at the moment, though it's not like they are even ducking each other but instead facing top challenges.

Between the 3 of them they've faced (or will have faced) 3 of the top Middleweights of the past few years. Shame they aren't fighting each other but it's great they are fighting top guys.

If they don't face each other where will the three of them go for opponents ?

...Golovkin, Quillin, Geale, Chavez Jr, Pirog, Rubio, Lee, Vera, N'Dam N'Jikam, Nader, Bursak...lets not pretend that it's only Martinez and the British trio in the division as it's one of the deeper divisions.

It would have made me cry.

i shudder to think what that rainy German ringwalk Haye had for Wlad wouldve done to you then
Aren't German fans mostly respectful at fights over there?

Anyway, the answer can only be Anthony "Whisky/Hey Good Lookin'!" Ogogo.

They didn't go to Buenos Aires and fight in front of one of the most partisan crowds
in boxing history. 50000 hostile Argentinians and Murray didn't even flinch, that
takes bollocks the size of the moon. :TU:

Good point, i thought the crowd was going to make him cry like a girl.
Argentina, crying, a girl ............ there is a song here somewhere, he really genuinely seemed unphased or unfaded as Ricky put it

They don't make waterproof tracksuits here so that was a help in the none violence

I might add though that they tried to smash the ring after the fight using it as a trampoline

Murray's options are far more limited than the others as he cant get into the States. On a different note, what a temperament the man has.

ima sad,
I appreciate there are potential opponents out there but it's one thing identifying them, its another getting the fights made.
I worry for Martin that he is potentially in the "who wants him" department and with the problems with his Promotor not having a TV deal I just think the three way uk tornament is the way forward.
Not sure I can keep up with whos doing what etc for Macklin and then Barker has the backing of young Eddie so maybe easier to make than any other options ?

i agree 100%
very good fighter that does not bring anything to the table
he does not have much of a fan base, tv or able to fight in america
lee will fight barker in septmeber and macklin will be beat again
they will of had about eight world title fights with no victory between them all so they are no, collins, eubank and benn.
pity he did not get the belt so they would fight each other

I agree with you fella's.

He might need to jump ship if he doesn't want to end up like Rendal Munroe (same goes for Scott Quigg)

All boxers mentioned have one common denominator .........

I think GGG's going to wipe them all out anyway to be honest, so it's academic really.

thats a load of bollocks and takes away his achievement murrays size and game plane made martinez fight the way he did and i onnestly believe he underestamated murray and got a massive shock but to say he got a worse version is bollocks and murray would beat maclin and barker im a 100pcnt confident on that
He got a significantly less sharp version of Sergio, one would have to be quite biased not to see that.

And he didn't win anyway, so I'm finding it funny to call it an achievement. It was a good performance in a losing effort.

It wasn't a robbery by any means (certainly not as bad as the Sturm fight), but I did feel for Murray at the end of that fight. I had them level, but had the referee scored what was a perfectly legitimate second knockdown would have given Murray the win.
