I think if Audley is willing to fight for peanuts every 2 months or so against journeyman over in America or Germany then there will be work for him. I don't think he is willing to do that tho and considering the money he must have earned during his career we would all do the same thing.
I think Audley will retire. Until I gave him the Ali Adams fight he had no options and I would not be prepared to offer that purse again. Therefore on the basis he cannot command the purses he will require and I dont think anyone will do what I did for the Adams-Harrison fight I expect him to retire.

Well Said Steve Lets hope he retires altogether

What's McDermott going to do with the British title if he feels he has to avoid Harrison?

Will McDermott get paid much more to fight Chisora for the British belt? Is McDermott even at the front of the queue to fight for the British title if it is vacated?

McDermott vs Harrison could be a final eliminator and beating Harrison would help to build hype for his British title shot.
Sorry I thought boxing was a business for a minute.

It's not a question of avoiding Harrison, why would he avoid him, Harrison hasn't called him out, your suggesting Harrison would be a good fight for McDermott but I'm saying Audley would likely come with a £20-30k price tag, so where could they do that fight, the York Hall? Why put McDermott in with Audley, knowing he could lose (he ain't no Price or Wilder), risk a British title shot for McDermott, knowing how much the British would mean to Big John?
Where then for McDermott? Why would a promoter want to bankroll Audley for a potential shot at the British title?
In the days of Sky Sports / Maloney this could have happened, but Loaded TV probably wouldn't be wanting to cough up the kind of money this fight would need.

Harrison vs McDermott loses money, but McDermott vs Chisora is a blockbuster?

McDermott has lost before, a loss to Harrison barely effects him.

I'm not sure I said anything about Chisora v McDermott? That's a different fight because it would probably be on allegedly, if it happened, not Loaded where McDermott v Harrison would end up. One promoter owns the TV station, the other has to accept very small amounts for shows now. Isn't that just how the business has changed since Sky went exclusive with Hearn? Makes these types of fights much more risky for promoters, and they are unlikely to take chances.

I thought that deal was specifically for Price?

As Steve Goodwin said, he wouldn't expect anyone to pay him what he did for the Adams fight. I just can't see a UK promoter using Audley (outside of Prizefighter) as the ask would be too high and his stock too low. Whether you like it or not, Audley's chances of getting into the British title mix are nearly zero unless he reassessed his worth in the market, because outside of the few major promoters that have TV, no one is going to risk bringing a fighter along then pay Audley huge money to come over, win, and the promoter (and TV station in the case of Loaded) have lost their investment.

I don't see why Maloney and Warren can't agree to show other Maloney cards if they both want that.

Harrison reassessing his worth might be necessary, but he is still worthy of a decent paycheck.

Id pick him to beat Mcdermott.

I suspect the reassessing goes beyond Harrison aswell actually, now that TV seems to be so closed off there can't be much money to throw around for decent marquee (if you could call it that) fights like the one we're discussing here, but it must be getting felt throughout British boxing.

For the record I'd rather see McDermott in with someone like Vinny Maddalone - think it would be more competitive in the ring than it might look on paper and it would give McDermott some decent rounds without costing Maloney the earth.

surely mcdermott should fight the younger contenders -sam Sexton, Lewison Towers etc not mess about with Audley who can't be relied on to last a full round let alone create an enetretaining contest. It must be over for Audley now.

Eddie Heard says there's a 'big international prizefighter' coming up. Maybe Rudely will want one last shot.

Problem is, there'll be people on here who still think Audley has a chance at something.

When he debuted on the BBC I was as guilty as anybody of thinking/wanting him to go on to bug success. Sadly, that's not been the case, and it's been obvious for a while. Audley did nothing to earn a World Title shot against David Haye, yet there were people who thought he'd win. Even the media who had been slating him for years, suddenly forgot what they'd already said about him and hyped up his chances. A lot of fans were angry at him when he lost, and angry at themselves for believing in him. The thing is, coming on here before Saturday, there were still people saying they were interested in his undercard fight.

Audley may lack the necessary heart to do anything useful in the heavyweight division, but he somehow manages to sell himself and his fights. Somewhere down the road there'll be another heavyweight wanting a low-risk fight that pays top dollars, and I think Audley still delivers that.

I agree with this, I just can't see that happening in the UK, he could get fed up to someone like Lucas Brown or Alex Leapai in Australia and Audley might see the risk/reward scenario makes it worthwhile for him, the Australian promoters seem to be paying top dollar for old names at the moment, and Audley would fit the bill and could still sell one of those fights.

I will not be surprised if he does to choose to finally hang it up especially in the way he got run over by Deontay Wilder on Saturday night perhaps he will realise that he can't hang with the young lions coming through who are looking to get a good name on the slate and a few rounds on their slate too.

I still think Audley beats Fury.

I also thought he would beat Haye, Price and Wilder.

I pretty much agree with you Warrior if you look at top ten ratings on box rec then there only four names that stick out should Price vacate in the near future as Frank has suggested. Sprott and Skelton (although both tough competitors with great records) are, I would think out of the running, as is Rogan. That leaves the obvious names you mentioned McDermot who is English Champion and therefore next in line, Towers (with his EBU-E title, Chisora if he wanted to go that route and one name which you forgot to mention Sam Sexton. At 28, Sexton is the former Southern Area, Prizefighter winner, Commonwealth Champion, and actually faired far better against Price than all the other contenders having actually asked Maloney for the fight after a layoff. Boxing news has him at no 5 above all the others so therefore next in line for a shout at the British. Sam is now back having had two come back fights after his loss to Price and looking better than ever and hitting harder than before So it would be more likely Mc Dermott vs Sexton for the vacated title. :yay:

I forgot all about Sexton actually. Always thought he could get to euro-level if keeps at it.
