Standard wise it's probably on par with League 1 in England although the Irish clubs can cause an upset in Europe now and again. Shamrock Rovers made it to the group stages in the Europa in 2011 after beating Partizan Belgrade in Belgrade. Didn't win a game but didn't get majorly outclassed in any of the games.

Im sure I recognise the name Elding! I dont follow football like I used to but was he a conference player for quite awhile before getting a shot in the league?

You can't say that if you have never seen LOI. Comparing one player doesnt indicate the standard of the league. maybe he is just having a good run, he has had them before. Graham Cummins played in Division 1 over here, he used to play for my local club, Waterford. Massive gap between the top 6/7 clubs in Ireland and the rest. Long, Doyle, Forde, McLean, Noel Hunt have all moved from LOI to England over the past few years so there is plenty of talent mixed in with the not so good.

There's definitely talent but when Anthony Elding can score 11 goals in 13 games, it says something when someone that slow, who is absolute shite, can score goals and to be fair I do rate Cummins, just they're the obvious examples for me when comparing the leagues.

On the flip side, how many players go from LOI to the Premiership and how many do so from league 1? I'd hazard a guess more do from LOI. In fact Seamus Coleman transferred from Sligo Rovers to Everton.

Plenty make the step up to the Premiership, Nick Powell went from League 2 to the Premiership last season and plenty of others have done the same.
