Maybe that's why they spelt it "rhumble", to get out of paying buffer?

Interesting life.

He was adopted as a baby, brought up by foster carers for a while.

Sold second hand cars, then got drafted into the Vietnam war.

When he made it big, he real father got in touch, through him he met his half-brother Bruce Buffer (and introduced him to MC'ing).

I read that his trademarked "Lets get ready to rumble" made him richer than most of the greatest boxers of all time, circa £300m in endorsements.

buffer is an institution. hes like the guy who invented milk cartons....he took something seemingly trivial, made it his own, and made a fortune.
the guys they use in britain are crap. i think they try to appeal to the shaven headed sun reading beer belly east end two bob thug demographic....completely turning off millions of potential punters. if we can produce world class boxers like calzaghe, froch ,haye brook and burns , you d think we could come up with something better than the cheap guy ritchie cockney geezer caricatures that contribute to the decline in popularity and appeal of boxing .

Check out the guy doing Jamie McDonnell's title fight at the weekend, Phil Seymour. Nothing like the stereotype you mention.

As much as you are absolutely correct, I would love to see Alan Ford as a boxing announcer

Michael Pass is the best in the UK IMO. He's quality. The worst boxing MC has got to be the Mev n Bev guy allegedly uses. He's just awful.

Pass is indeed quality, prefer him now with the grey hair looks less like Elvis. Craig Stephen that does Maloney shows is also very professional

I think we have some good announcers and agree Phil Seymour did a good job at the weekend but they don't come close to matching Buffer or Lennen, the latter being the better of the two for me and remember his dad doing a good job in all the top fights years ago

Thanks to those who have said kind words about my announcing at Doncaster, it was a massive night for me, being my first world title fight I've been on the mic for, and I loved it, Jamie was incredible!

As for the Peter Kay comment, I've been mistaken for him before and asked to sign an autograph! Hahaha

I think it really adds something. Even non boxing fans recognise and enjoy it. The one who's really lame is the one who says 'iiiiitsss Showtime' that one actually makes my adrenaline drop...

Saturday night. Packed Arena. Fight is just minutes away. Buffer tells you who the referee is and there is a moment of quiet excitement. Then.........

"For the thousands in attendance and for the millions watching around the world. Ladies and Gentleman... LET'S GET READY TO RUUMMMMMMBLLLLLLLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Crowd goes wild. Everyone goes mental in my mate's bar, with the fight on the giant screen. That's when you know it's a big fight.

COME ON CARL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait now.
