Yep, Purdy can't win the title because he came in overweight...0.5lbs according to Eddie on Twitter.
If he wins he gets to fight for the vacant title next.

He was overweight in his last fight, so I'm not surprised he's overweight again.

I normally support British fighters against foreigners, but I find it difficult to care about Purdy.

If he looses he must move up to Light Middle. He has no choice at this point, second time in a row, he has missed weight.

very dissapointing, no excuses if he couldent make the weight dont take the fight. Cant route for him now. He deserves everything he gets tommorrow night.

Do you think he may be out of sorts because of this, he has obviously tried his best to get down 147 but could not do it in 4 weeks, I wonder if the short notice and obviously trying his best but failing to make weight will take its toll on his body, he must have to lose quite a few pounds if he has not been able to make weight two fights in a row, I sense Alexander stoppage.

Boxrec have him weighing 145½ for the Rivera fight. Surely a mistake there as he was supposedly over 147 for that. It makes the IBF's decision to move him up to 4th ranked fighter all the more questionable.

Overweight two fights consecutive. Questions need to be asked about when the last time he actually weighed sub-147 and what he was weighing when Matchroom took the fight four weeks ago.

I think Purdy being 1 lb over and the fight not being for the title is the final straw for Purdy's very, very slim chance of winning. A massive mental block.

I really can't see him going the distance, which leads me to think, will the fight now be a 10 rounder?

145½ was Rivera's weight, Purdy was 148¾.

As others have said - biggest fight of his life and he can't make the weight. Looks dwarfed by Alexander and not in the best shape so I can't see this going any other way than an Alexander stoppage. A good payday none the less.

Wasn't comfortable with this fight even before the weight issue, now I'm full on worried for Purdy. I'd prefer it if he pulled out. With no belt on the line it's only about money now and his health is more important than any payday.

He missed weight. If he can get within a pound he can make weight, I'm not about to think that he has done all he can. He should have moved mountains to make that weight, its the only shot at a genuine world title he will ever get, the absolute pinnacle of his career. You could see it in his face on the scales that he was disappointed - I would be inclined to think that he knew he hadn't done enough.

Well with the belt not being up for grabs, what little interest I had in this fight just evaporated. With Brook pulling out twice, and now this with Purdy, I'm sure Alexander will want nothing to do with Matchroom fighters in future if he can help it. A mandatory defence where the belt isn't on the line

Which is something Purdy is well aware of. A pound in an hour would come off if it wanted to.

I don't think that he will hold it against Brook, bear in mind Alexander pulled out of that fight once too.

I agree about the interest taking a knock though, still have Peterson v Matthyse though

Gutting news for Lee Purdys camp,surely 4 weeks was plenty time to make weight,very unprofessional from Purdy,nothing like Tony Bellews situation in the Nathan Cleverly Did Lee try and shed the weight after he weighed in and make a second attempt to get down to 147 :??
