I read the Sibbo book the other day, a very good read about a terrific career.

I always wondered about the Lotte Mwale loss - and found it hard to imagine teak tough Sibbo getting flattened inside a round like that. But the book gives all the gory details, about how shocked Tony was to see himself unconcious on the back page of his local paper, and how he almost quit as a result. In the book, Tony says for 3 minutes he was "dead"...

Ive never seen footage or even a picture of the fight....anyone know of the existance ?

Mwale's trainer / manager George Francis snuck the Zambian under the radar for the Sibson fight, keeping quiet about just how good and hard hitting he was. After the result, Francis say's he's never seen a cleaner knock out.

Which was ironic, as Lotte went on to lose in his world title challenge to Matt Saad Muhammad in one of the most devastating knock outs you'll ever see: a left uppercut lifts him off the canvas and it's lights out.
And the tragic Lotte's next world title challenge, against the other Muhammad ( Eddie mustafa ) ended in another frightening knock out.

He was a terrific fighter though, the best Zambia ever produced they say, and both he and Tony would certainly have won world titles today.

The book is £17.99 and yes Sports Pages was great for boxing books and things.

I've seen the picture on the back page of the Leicester Mercury. Sibbo is flat on his back, much like Ricky Hatton against Pacquiao. It's not pretty. Mwale had won gold in the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand in 1974 and was hurt by the African boycott of the Montreal Olympics two years later. He served as John Conteh's sparring partner for the most part in this country, which must have been like sparring Joe Frazier. As for Sibbo, he was back in the ring quickly when he stopped a Manchester man in three rounds at Wolverhampton a few weeks later. He crushed his opponent's ribs with a left hook to the body, so there were no lasting affects. Essentially, he was a rising middleweight who ran into a world class light-heavyweight.
