As happy as I am with last nights result I wouldn't be so confident that the Argentinian can destroy Garcia in the same way. Not that I'll be making any bold predictions around that.
So glad we have this excellent showdown on the horizon.

No one else has said it so I will. Thought it was an early stoppage even though Peterson was in trouble. The second knockdown wasn't a huge shot and Peterson stubbled over, because he hadn't got his legs back properly. But you could see he was getting straight back up and was much more aware aware than after the first knockdown. It's a big fight, give the man a chance to turn things around. He's a tough guy and Matthyse isn't the best boxer around. With that being said Matthyse has some real power.

Me neither. I think Garcia beats him. That left hook is hellacious and much sharper than Matthyse'. Matthyse is to crude for my liking, you can never be to confident in a fighter like that. They start trading and Matthyse gets caught first.

Garcia is good but he's largely made his name from the Khan stoppage and the two wins over Morales.
Most people look past the pasting Khan was giving him because he was like Bambi on ice every time he connected cleanly and from the point of the first KD onwards, he was pretty much out of there.
I like Garcia, he seems a likeable kid and he talks some sense - I liked what he had to say about his punch selection in the Judah fight - I just think that Matthysse will be on him like a cheap suit and won't let up, and he hits a hell of a lot harder than Khan can, not to mention hits very hard with both hands and punches in combination.
I expect Garcia to counterpunch (or look to) and smother (the same way Peterson tried at times) but I just think the first few times Matthysse lands cleanly, he's gone.

I'd not put a penny peace on a Garcia v Matthysse bout but would get up very early to watch it; it is one of the best match ups in boxing. Though Danny may have the tighter hook Lucas hits very hard with the right, both straight an overhand, he also seems very tough. This bout would not be for the squeamish.

I hope 'they' don't build it until one of them loses; strike while the iron is hot should be the new boxing promotion motto.

I could be wrong, but both are with GBP. They're both making the right noises about the fight, that's for sure. The right things are coming from the promoters too. It's clear they think Matthysse is going places so I hope, like you say, they don't try and build him and match him soft.
Matthysse also said a while ago he wasn't that interested in 147, so I hope they don't push him in that direction too soon.

matthyse seems to get better and better, and now has 3 serious stoppage wins (peterson, soto, olusegun), following 2 controversial defeats vs southpaws (alexander, judah) that got him notice and sympathy.
he deserves his shot vs garcia, who looks good in early KO wins (khan, morales).
reckon matthysse's momentum sweeps away garcia in a brutal fight.
get matthysse in with provodnikov, that's the one for me. oh, and get alvarado in there, also.

Agreed. How many great match ups have been left to brew too long and have gone cold.

Lucas vs Khan is a round 1 KO

It seems I'm in a field of one then - as hard as Mathysse hits I think the first 'elite' fighter he faces takes him apart. He's too rough around the edges and isn't actually that good a boxer. If he meets anyone who either avoids or can take that punch then he's in trouble.
I think a fight with Mayweather has suddenly become very sellable but it would be a total shut out, as it would against Garcia IMO.

What do you class as an 'elite' fighter though, just Mayweather?
He's been fighting world class opponents for the last 3 years, knocking the majority down and most out.
He looks crude but saying he 'isn't actually a good boxer' is just ridiculous. He's not a wild slugger, everything he does is set up, his footwork is great and he cuts the ring off really well, he feints all the time and varies his attacks from different angles, his body positioning and leverage are outstanding which mean even his cuffing shots are hurtful.
He sometimes looks off balance but that's bound to happen because he commits himself so much to his power shots.
Also ask yourself why he's usually unmarked after fights, he doesn't take many shots at all as his defence is very good - moves well from the waist, slips and parries well on the outside and again his foot positioning is excellent when in range and he steps off on angles all the time so rarely takes heavy shots himself.
Guys who can't box do not put world class, technical fighters like Peterson, Alexander, Judah on their backside

Which 'elite' fighters, bar Mayweather, would 'take him apart' in your opinion?

I agree with this. Sure he fell on the floor trying to load up which is always amusing, but Peterson managed to box on the backfoot and keep away from him for a round an a half. Landing nothing in the process. Sure Peterson isn't the smoothest of boxers but he aint bad.
Would love to see Marquez in with him. Think the old man still has enough to take someone like Matthysse and it would be an exciting fight imo. Mayweather scores a fairly dull UD over him (copied and pasted from 90% of potential Mayweather matchups)

Ooh, Marquez, nice call, hadn't even considered that one! I'd just worry about Matthyse size in that match, he's 160 on fight night, would dwarf little Juan!
Another thing about Matthysse, his timing is superb, counter punches very well and judges distance perfectly so opponents feel the full weight of his shots.
The Dallas KO is an example, his slip of the jab+counter right hand is a joy, you need outrageous vision, timing and speed to pull that off perfectly, the guy is far from a slouch technically

He fights with confidence in his own power the day someone takes it and fires back..

He's a serious puncher, but Danny Garcia has been in with some very heavy hitters, and shown an excellent chin. I'd give him a good shot at beating the Argie.
And I thought the ref was mistaken to let Pearson carry on after that 2nd knock down - that was a shattering punch and there was no way back from that. He could have been left seriously hurt if Lucas had landed a bomb straight after.

Completely overrated now. Big hitter but already failed to find a way to beat Judah and Alexander. People may complain about how those fights could have gone the other way, but they didn't, and if this guy is a P4P contender then he shouldn't be having close fights with those guys. I wouldn't be surprised if Garcia knocks him out.

I don't get this at all, surely that's the sort of comment you'd make about an untested banger who has been feasting on nobodies and is completely untested at a higher level?
He's star has been building the last couple of years and he's been fighting top guys, not bums.
Your comment suggests we don't know if he'd fold under pressure or will go to pieces if he can't get someone out of there early, but he got stronger in the Judah/Alexander fights, carries his power late into fights and seems to have a completely sound temperament in big fights.

who's claiming he's a top p4p guy and overrating him?
Surely you can understand why people are excited about him, guys with power like his, at world level, are pretty rare.
Close fights with Judah and Alexander, so what? Styles make fights and having extremely close bouts with 2 slick southpaws, whilst putting them on their arse, is no disgrace and doesn't make him crap.
The Garcia fight has got to happen, it'll be an awesome shootout, i'd favour Lucas but Garcia can really punch too so has a chance.
I just don't get the attitude of 'he's not all that, overrated, can't box' etc etc, can't we just enjoy the fact that a genuinely monstrous puncher is around and there's so many potentially great fights for him!

Controversial split decision loses at that. He is not the finished article, but he isn't dodging anyone, looks to go toe to toe and is knocking people out. Today there is a massive lack of fighters who do that, people are right to get over excited over him. To be honest I've read some comments and thought "wooh there Nelly" but then decided fuck it, get on board, war Matthysse!

Been struggling to type a response today after watching the fight last night. On one hand its great we have someone like Matthysse who will fight anyone and appears to have explosive power but on the other hand I thought that Peterson looked timid in the fight - looking like he was waiting for the bomb, expecting it so was prepared to go when it happened.
Peterson (and this may be credit to Matthysse for cutting the ring off) looked like he had the wrong tactics, he was always in range of Matthysse so much so he could hardly miss, felt if Peterson stepped forward more when throwing he would have missed Matthyss's punches. That wild hook he through to essentially end the fight, was that, wild.
End of the day Judah got through the fight and he tends to collapse when hit back..Looking at Matthysee's CV and one thing that jumped out was how similar in my mind was it to Junior Witter's CV....
Think Garcia will beat him.
