He will go down in history, as one of britains top 5 fighters..

And i truly believe he can beat ward in the uk..
I think you're being carried away by the euphoria.

Did you see what Ward did to Froch and Kessler?

What I think it shows is that Bute is more Lacy than we all thought. I can see what John is saying. Froch has maybe gained a two round swing on an ageing Kessler when everything is perfect and fighting at home...

The fact that he beat Kessler shows he is a true British great....but, I think Froch's last two victories were over hyped because he clearly isn't this all new better than ever by miles fighter that Bute made him look.

I think Kessler 2010 still beats Froch 2013 and Ward beats the pair comfortable.

Ya ward fought very well and he give Froch and Kessler a boxing lesson in the USA
But bring ward over to the UK and we will see froch talent rise to another level
Like last night, he could be very successful.

I respectfully but completely disagree.

Froch fighting Ward will be the same result, even in Britain.
The crowd may raise Froch somewhat, but they're not going to give him more skill and nullify Wards skill.

If we're honest, Wards style and skill is terrible for Froch.

I was very impressed with Froch; he started fast, was very busy and asserted himself really well. I put a tenner on Kessler but Froch won quite handily - maybe 3 clear rounds. It was a good, competitive bout and I was happy with it.

Though Carl got revenge over Kessler and had a fantastic night Ward is different altogether; he is very versatile, going forward or backward, physically and mentally strong and beat Froch out of sight last time. Ward is the division number one without a doubt and Froch could make a ton of money and be in an exciting stadium bout v Groves.

I understand your point but he didn't box 'beautifully' behind the jab. He used the jan to great effect but still dropped his right hand and threw it from lower than the shoulder, not particularly correct. But it was refreshing to see him utilise his long reach.

As for Ward-Froch, let's remember that 2 judges had it a 2 point fight. In a rematch-in England-Froch may be a very tough proposition for Ward.

Lets remember that Adoline Byrd scored Froch vs Kessler 118-110.... all ridiculous cards. Ward controlled Froch with one hand.

All things considered I thought that was the best I've seen Froch. Slightly shading the Bute performance and the Abraham domination.

Ward? Well given that two judges did have it very narrow, in America, I think it is definitely possible that Carl could get a tight split decision over here. Whether he would 'actually' beat him I don't know but I tend not to have much sympathy with boxers who are spoilers, which is essentially what Ward is, getting a bit of a raw decision.

Edit: on the subject of Ward; if you haven't seen the post fight press conference with Carl then it's worth a watch; a Danish journalist mentioned that Virgil Hunter had scored the fight a draw, and Carl's reply was "there's a saying here in England; he should have gone to Specsavers".

:D

I was gutted by the fight to be honest. I`m sick to death of watching 50/50 fights, with two proper hard men going at it in front a huge crowd.

Froch left me massively dissapointed by providing an entertaining fight and delivering on what he promised. I will never watch another of his fights after that.

After the recent gallant efforts of Purdy, A Force and Junior Witter, I really feel Froch needs to get a hold of himself and stop ripping off the paying punblic.

I would love to see him beat Ward; it's a mountain to climb, and I think it's more likely that Ward wins, but I believe Ward's legacy will ultimately be defined by his wins over Froch, and that is a huge compliment in itself.

I would agree, and that horrible Amir needs to stop being in exciting fights as well.

Screw it, bring back David Starie

Pure postulation. There is no evidence to support this claim seeing as Nathan's chin has hardly been tested by a real puncher. His opponents have been largely feather fisted.
Bellew caught him clean and he took his shots well. You dont think Bellew can hit?

johnswan1 wrote:Firstly, I don't to say I was disappointed with the fight, because it was excellent (but apart from the 8th and 12th rounds it didn't carry the same drama as the first fight).

Prior to this fight, people were making out that Froch had greatly improved since the first fight and that Kessler was potentially on the decline.

Having now watched the fight, I think both are around the same level they were at last time, except Froch was much busier, which enabled him to outwork Kessler and get the win.

Reasons I am a little disappointed are because:

1 I thought Froch would be much more physically dominant than he was, and increasingly so throughout the fight
2 Most pundits were tipping Froch to win comfortably on points and I felt to make a real statement he would need to stop Kessler, so he only really did what was expected and no more
3 Last night showed that a rematch with Ward would be no different than before, Froch was too wild and inaccurate with his power shots
4 Froch was probably flattered by the stoppage wins against Bute and Mack (where I felt he had renewed belief and determination) and hasn't really improved since the first Kessler fight
5 It all feels a little anti climatic, and other than Cleverly, I can't think of another opponent for Froch I would be genuinely excited about seeing him in with

Maybe it's just a combination of me thinking Froch was better than he showed and that Kessler's performance far exceeded everybody's expectations?

Froch had no right to disappoint you in such a terrible, inconsiderate fashion. What a shit boxer and worse yet, man, he is.

1. Watch the first fight then watch this one. Froch commanded from the middle of the ring for the vast majority and didn't let himself get pushed back by a naturally smaller man (The first fight Kessler just marched forward constantly, where the fight just gone the piercing jab held him off)
2. I dont think anyone expected Carl to win by KO, Kessler was down by a monstorus hook from Green and still got up. Where anyone would have got the idea that Froch turned into a devastating puncher overnight in beyond me (for the record i know he hits very hard, but his one punch KO power isn't the best)
3. What Froch has shown though is the ability to learn from his loss and to adapt a gameplan to compete in a rematch. He knows form the first fight with Ward that he wont just be able to bully him. Froch is awkward to hit and has a good reach, Although not the quicker man, that jab for 12 rounds would not make for an easy nights work for ward if Froch kept spite in the punches and could double up or even throw trebles.
4. He can only beat whats put in front on him. Results did perhaps flatter him, but Bute was unbeaten and most people tipped Bute to win. Mack was a ticking over fight, justified.
5. The Cleverly fight wold be interesting, interesting that Cleverly seems to fancy his chances even more against Froch after sparring Kessler. I dont see Forch wanting to jump him. His got a big money rematch with Ward. Thats where he will aim. A fight against either a 'name' in america to sell himself a bit more or a unification with one the other champs will come first though

Froch boxed to order, it was a controlled performance, and that was why it lacked the drama of the first, Froch never allowed Kessler to get a real foothold into the fight. He fought a very clever fight.

I was very dissapointed, I'd like to see Froch in an entertaining fight for once, not these yawners he keeps giving us. Whats wrong with going gung ho now and again? It was like watching Audley Harrison v Johnny Nelson.

Froch has a lot of momentum right now; plus, Ward's injury and layoff must be considered. Froch is the best opponent for Ward. Much better than Ward calling Calzaghe out from retirement.

I thought he improved in the respect that would yield the biggest gains—his jab consistency.

He was much more consistent with the jab, which was crucial as the bout was fought on close to even terms when he abandoned the jab but decidedly in his favor when he used it regularly. In the first bout, Froch had great success when he used the jab consistently (e.g. round one), but he didn't do that enough and thus left great room for improvement; by using the jab more and not regressing in other areas, I think he fought at a higher level than he did in the first bout.
