Really shows you how brilliant his marketing was. He spent a decade beating washed up big names and probably made excellent money in Denmark without ever risking himself with any top 10 guys. At the end of it, casual fans thought he was a legitimate contender/fake (ibc) champion (62-1 before losing to a washed up Tyson). He makes Erdei look like a chump for actually fighting decent opponents earlier in his career.

His loss to Ferguson can't be attributed to being overweight he weighed the same (238) as he did for Lewis and actually looked more solid. That said Mercer was overweight the wide majority of his career and should have been closer to his Olympic weight of 200 (around 210 would've been optimal).

Mercer gets over-rated by many, but I agree with majority here; best for best Super Brian is not lasting the distance.

Holmes - Nielsen, did you even see it? If so, how did you score it? Holmes did nothing from round 3 to round 11 and consequently lost. It may suck to be beaten by Danish pastry when you are a former great but that is what happened.

And why don't you work on your reading comprehension skills? I DID say in an earlier post that the version of Mercer who fought Lewis beats any version of Nielsen.

My point, yet again, is that prime vs. prime Nielsen could win if Mercer fought like he did against Ferguson or Wilson. The Wilson and Ferguson fights did occur IN MERCERS PRIME. Whether he was fat, lazy, out of shape, on drugs or mourning the loss of his goldfish when he fought Wilson and Ferguson is irrelevant. He showed him self as an erratic performer who could be beaten by lesser fighters, even in his prime.
Best vs best it's Mercer, in their primes Nielsen could win.

There's the Nielsen/Holmes fight on youtube. If anyone hasn't actually seen it, they can right there. Doesn't look like a lot of people watching it on youtube agree with hhaehre's sentiments.

I can understand people having a soft spot for Corrie Sanders, but Brian Nielsen? His career is shameful.

If Nielsen had gritted his teeth probably he could've burst Tyson's bubble, but already Brian was past it by then. Funny little career, but at his very best a fringe Euro contender. A level above say a Julius Francis.
