im not having a go at your pad work I just said you do bring your right hand forward at times that doesn't mean your smashing it into the hand that's coming forward you are meeting it
![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)
but you could work on your own foot work

Heres a link to me taking one of my mates on the pads...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfFZyBSVSFU
Not exactly world champions like the last video and also not got the same facilities but still a decent wee video. Just watched it back there for the first time since I posted it for my mate who wanted to see himself in action. Hes got a fair old engine on him for someone who is nearer 40 than 30! lol

That was very good mate, only problem being and it a very common one is unless the boxer that's hitting the pads is fighting a southpaw you on the pads shouldn't be standing in the southpaw stance because s I've said earlier the distance is totally different.Well done!

Yup, fully agree. When we do the pads in a proper ring or wide space we vary it from round to round between orthodox and southpaw but when training in small spaces like that it gives us a bit more breathing space when we match each others stance.
We will need to record it again soon, really started pulling off some big combos and defense drills since that video was done. All good for fitness and enjoyment but as we all agreed earlier. Its one thing hitting the pads and another thing doing it for real.

This is a couple of years old but it shows lads progressing from beginner to fighting at novice level. I've changed my padding a lot now I met the pads too much and the drill stuff at the end is great for show but puts the boxer out of position and off balance.
I also like single pad stuff like billy is doing there. I'm developing that a bit more it makes a lot more sense in terms of helping kids identify the correct position for their feet. Ill get some newer videos if anyone's interested.

Oh yeah and give it 60 seconds the beginning is meant to be raw to demonstrate people progressing

The thing that we have done to make the padwork much more intense is to give combinations particular names.
ie... one, two, L hook to body, L hook, cross is a "hatton"
one, two, slip, slip, L hook, cross, L uppercut is a "Tyson"
jab, R uppercut, L hook, R hook is a "froch"
Now we have learned a long list of them we add them together, the guy taking the pads can give you a 12 punch combination by saying 3 names. lol. Sounds more complicated than it actually is but everyone picks it up quite quickly and it really speeds up the padwork.
So far on our list we have a: Hatton, Tyson, Mayweather, Floyd (yes hes got two), froch, Naz, marquez, micky ward, roy jones, camacho, khan, pacquiao, Haye and another few which slip my mind at the moment. lol

The pads should be used to enable the boxer to use the ring. After all a punch bag cannot replicate a step to the side.
Overextension is a result of poor judgement of distance.
Variety is essential. The boxer shouldn't always be set up to feel fantastic.

Great stuff Jeff, must be ace for novices like that to be pulling off some of those flash combinations, bet they feel like Pretty Boy Floyd
Good to see you drilling the fundamentals with them at the start too, hope they appreciate they've got a top coach, there's far too many crap ones about....

Id be a padman apprentice for anybody to be honest.
I enjoy taking them as much as i enjoy hitting them. Id get thrown around a bit more than Billy would whilst wearing the body bag right enough. Lol.

Jack Wilson of Marlow ABC was the biggest ccnut on the pads. He used to come from a foot away to meet the straight right at the end of a combo and i had damaged hands by the time i got to my first few amateur bouts by the time i ended a couple of seasons later they were so sore i stayed away from a bag for over a year and gave up boxing as a kid.
20 years on and i hear he still does that.

That's very kind mate I've got some awesome lads coming through these guys are just hobby boxers really - all in their 30's. 40 wins 12 losses and a white collar draw so far for lads I've trained ... I love it.
