Lennon Jnr very good, I also like Buffer although he has been prone to the odd gaffe, especially with the underdog fighters who he gets their name wrong etc.

I noticed that one too. Also said Quigg was the former British bantamweight champion.

I dont hate Watt as much as everyone else! Sure some of the stuff he says is utter crap but I think he makes some good observations during fights aswell.

observations of a stoned man - prizefighter growler cocks up

Post by forcefraser »

Too much wine and bobby hope had left me well cabbaged by the time fight night came on.

However I was astute enough to spot two glaring errors from the ring announcer, whom I call the prizefighter growler.

Firstly he forgot Paul Smith's surname. He introduced him as Paul Eeeyarghhhhhh! My mate who was equally wasted as myself looked at me with a puzzled and confused face. Via the gift of live pause, we rewound it several times and not once did we hear the word "smith" pronounced. A growling noise had taken it's place.

Worse still, he completely forgot to introduce Tony Dodson by name at all. He just mentioned his record and then moved on without even introducing his name. This move sent me into utter confusion. We rewound it all the way back to the start, convinced we had been mistaken BUT THERE WAS NO MISTAKE.

Two glaring errors by the growler.

I found the scoring on Rees v Crolla to be well off. Again this could be down to me being monkeyed, but I had Rees winning by a round.

Thought GGG looked a real force.

Jim Watt is an excellent analyst when he's not cheerleading, he'd be better off up with the Sky lot talking about the fight rather than commentating though as he's a dreary commentator when there's not much going on.

OTT on the pointless 'Former Champion of the Wooooooooooooooooooooooorld' announcement - yeah but he's not now, no need ffs.

and then when announcing the Crolla/Ree's scores trying to build up the tension he messed that up.... announcing one card for Crolla, then a draw, then slowing it down to announce........... the winner...aaaaaaaaand......(well its obviously crolla whos the winner if theres a winner then you fool). Ruined it.

Pass beats the growler hands down. Growler tends to lower his voice and speed up when he calls the records of the fighters.

I was thoroughly impressed by McDonald's ineptitude. Thoroughly impressed.

Proof that these fuckhead MCs are not boxing fans merely announcers who are lost without their magic cards.

If you've been calling fights for years you should accidentally pick up a few fighters names but Paul Euuuurgggh???....haha fornicate offfffff.

He's always rubbish. I don't care if he apologises they should get someone better.

To be fair he's been quite dodgy consistently though. Not as bad as that i admit but he's a bit too over the top i think. I know Michael Buffer is the king of OTT but for some reason he can get away with it and it seems somewhat cool. When Mcdonald does it, it just seems naff.

Ha poor bugger.

He's harmless, he dropped a clanger but everyone does once in a while.

No need to rip him to pieces lads.
