GGG vs FROCH?
Re: GGG vs FROCH?
I think it was very cute of Eddie to throw Froch's name into the mix after Golovkins demolition of Macklin .
I dont think for one minute Eddie wants the fight to happen though .
Froch is world class Golovkin looks different class to me.
I think he would stop Froch at the minute I dont see anyone beating him.

Golovkin has beaten Proska and Macklin. Not really results that warrant the hype. Sure, he`s a great fighter who hits hard and puts pressure on his opponent, but I`ll reserve judgement until he fights some more quality opponents.
I`d like to see him in against Degale at super middle.

Re: GGG vs FROCH?
I agree, he looks the part but needs to face better comp now. Quillin and Martinez would be perfect, or a fight with Chavez would do. The trouble is, will any of them fight him? Dibella has already gone on record stating Martinez will likely be out until 2014, and there's no way of him facing GGG in his first come back fight. That makes any potential fight between them at least 12 months away, and Martinez is already looking shot. Will he have anything left in a year?forcefraser wrote:Golovkin has beaten Proska and Macklin. Not really results that warrant the hype. Re: GGG vs FROCH?
This would be a blockbuster for sure.
As for a winner, I'd slightly favour Froch due to his size and durability advantages. If any fighter in the world can take Golovkin's power it would be Froch and Froch can hit hard as well. That said, Golovkin is the most exciting fighter in the world right now but needs to prove himself against world class opposition. Obviously the Martinez fight would be ideal but if that doesn't happen then he should go after the other champions at the weight. Geale (who he'd destroy in a couple of rounds) or Quillian should be the next step before moving up to 168.
If Mayweather fought and beat Golovkin at 154lbs he'd have to rank alongside the very best of all time. I don't think he'd take the fight though.

Re: GGG vs FROCH?
id agree with that he is very limited and wins through durability, heart, and work rate but he is miles short of frochs level. I havent seen GGG fight yet so i cant comment on weather he would beat froch but one thing i am certain of is that froch would have destroyed macklin in a one sided pasting so is a win over him of any manner that impressive? Macklin is effectively a European level fighter.lillywhite14 wrote:In your opinion. Quite possibly in mine too. Still, the point I was making is that I think he overachieved in even reaching that standard. He is considerably below Froch's level.Horse wrote:Macklin deserved his title shots.lillywhite14 wrote:Froch is two levels above Macklin, who over achieved in even getting the title shots he did to be honest.
Nobody said anything about him being deserving of his title shots.

41 selections for a guy to win via KO outside of his natural weight division and against a fighter who's never been stopped is ludicrous.
Re: GGG vs FROCH?
Maybe hatton can get in there and have Murray get a shot at him, GGG's scalp would firmly put him in with the big boys and big paydays of the MW division.ALI wrote:I agree, he looks the part but needs to face better comp now. Isn't Golovkin 31, needs to move handily.

Yep and had a boat-load of amateur fights too.Wales wrote:Isn't Golovkin 31, needs to move handily.
No injuries though unlike Tszyu, which halted him eventually (shoulder wear and tear)
Re: GGG vs FROCH?
Where would Matthew Macklin be placed in the UK, and more importantly, where would Macklin rank in the top 10 worldwide ?
Obviously we have a lot of 160 fighters from your Rubios to your N'Dams, your Vera's to your Daniel Geales...
I always temper the emphatic victory against the level they are at.
For me, if Froch's utter demolition of unbeaten Bute happened on the same night as GGG vs Macklin, then Gennady wouldn't get a single vote on this poll.

Everyone loves a big puncher, that's why GGG has 41 votes for a ko. Going up eight pounds in weight though, nobody knows for certain if his tremendous punching power would be as effective.

Re: GGG vs FROCH?
I will confess I've not seen Golovkin yet, but even so, aren't people getting carried away. Froch has fought a totally different level of fighter, and is a proven tough nut with an incredible heart, will to win and engine.
We've not seen what happens when Golovkin comes up against someone of Froch's level yet, at 160, let alone 168. Punchers always look unbeatable until they run into someone who can stand up to their power - Watson v Benn anyone?

Tell me about it. People were predicting Stevenson to roll over Froch too.Hagler2002 wrote:41 selections for a guy to win via KO outside of his natural weight division and against a fighter who's never been stopped is ludicrous.
50 picks for GGG KO now. I am starting to lose faith in humanity.
Re: GGG vs FROCH?
Froch would be too big.
Re: GGG vs FROCH?
I need to see GGG against a tough SMW before making a confident prediction. Currently, I feel most comfortable picking Froch by decision.
Re: GGG vs FROCH?
if ward couldnt ko froch , i find it hard to imagine any other would. especially one from a lower weight division. ggg looks excellent, but lets face it, he s not been in with any top fighters that dont lead with their face. i think macklins style flattered ggg.
Re: GGG vs FROCH?
yep same happened with broner the other night everyone was heralding him as the next PBF he moves up his power isnt as effective, the quality of fighter he is facing can take a punch, now everyone is saying he has been exposed. Difference is GGG isnt considered the next coming of PBF and wont be moving up a weight to face a feather fisted and weaker of the divisons champions.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I will confess I've not seen Golovkin yet, but even so, aren't people getting carried away. Re: GGG vs FROCH?
I've gone Froch by points though he'd get rattled plenty and it would no doubt be X rated.
(We'll have to see how the iron chin of Froch stands to Groves power; George has a real punch on him; I'm not sure if the resilience of Froch will ebb soon. He has lived well but has took plenty of hard flush punches - not healthy long term and a fighter can suddenly 'go').

He was definitely wobbled in the 11th against Kessler.palooka wrote:I've gone Froch by points though he'd get rattled plenty and it would no doubt be X rated.

Re: GGG vs FROCH?
Honestly, I’ve seen too many KO artists come unstuck against iron chinned defensive types. Or just implode when facing someone who doesn’t go away.
I really love watching Golovkin. I hope he proves to be a great. And think he probably will be. But let’s see him beat Quillin first.

Re: GGG vs FROCH?
quillin's with golden boy and showtime; golovkin with HBO, i believe...
reckon golovkin would win. quillin chooses his shots well but doesn't throw enough. looks too big for the weight.
reckon it'd be like tyson v ruddock 1 or 2. quillin being rudock, dangerous - very dangerous - in spots but getting busted up and worked over.

Re: GGG vs FROCH?
They have offered Martin Murray the fight (apparently) for New York, subject to visa issues in November I think.
I hope Martin has that baseball bat he mentioned !

Re: GGG vs FROCH?
I like the sound of this.
can't fight Martinez this year? fight the guy who pushed him close, in argentina.
will murray take the punches better than ishida, proksa and of course macklin?
should be interesting as murray's a big middleweight. maybe he'll be able to take the shots better but he'll have problems maintaining the pace.
if golovkin can't get him out of there, if he has a chest infection again and struggles, probably a lot of ppl will jump off the hype wagon.
methinks golovkin's for real but would like to see him go late vs the big, strong and highly competent 160-pounder that martin murray most likely is.

Can't believe 50% of boxrec regulars think Froch gets ko'd by GGG ! Bet froch is laughing his head off
