Yes.
And even if one was to concede they did exist, it would not be at the behest of eating more protein but other external factors (such as the availability of more micro nutrient rich food and supplements and advancements in medicine). The above facts are universally accepted in any university literature fella.

Well yes in a word. But the supplement industry aren't going to advertise the fact.
Reality is that the only people who can absorb any more vast amounts of protein are those taking steroids, which aid protein absorbtion and synthesis in scales off the chart, hence the huge size gains and recovery ability.

That 136g of protein absorbed that you quote...does that translate directly to body weight? So you absorb 136g of protein...and theoretically gain 136g in weight? Obviously, that's simplifying it. But for us lay men.

No. Weight gain is not linked to the grammes of protein absorbed. There are many impact factors such as how hard you train the muscles, how efficiently you train and recover and the remainder of your diet. However muscle gain is nigh on impossible without a high protein diet. Its just that the amount needed is greatly exaggerated.

That is the total amount that is converted.
By asking how much that weight is in protein needed I assume you mean how much food? That differs on the food. All food will clearly label its protein content.
Whey protein powders are really only helpful if you're on steroids as you can then absorb much more of the protein. But for the healthy adult a diet high in white meat such (chicken, turkey,etc) fish and lean red meat and eggs (omelettes, poached, scrambled etc) , supported with fruit and vegetables throughout the day will serve as an excellent engine room for growth.
Personally, I always topped up through the day with good old milk to ensure enough protein.

No worries. A high protein diet isn't really just about bulking up, that's also down to calorie intake and weight training.
High protein, moderate carb diets are excellent for regeneration of tissues, tendons and most cells after workouts. The problem with a lot of today's heavyweights is that you can tell they eat way too many carbs/fat and that extra weight impedes perfomance, movement and reflexes all of which are detrimental to a boxer. Yes it gives them more weight to transfer into a punch if they punch correctly but I feel the disadvantages outweigh the advantage. I would suggest the older fighters and todays Holyfields, Haye, Tyson, Povetkin, Wilder etc pretty much prove this. Very few behemoths punch their weight and if they do they can't do it for long. The exception being Klitschkos.

protein as a child affects height though it is not the only factor it is true in other animals too eg dogs if this is not the case how do you explain rising height lonfg after nutritional adequacy had been reached?

one chicken breast is about 30g of protein for example.
I think a single whole egg only gives about 10g.
Also, the magic number of how much protein to consume is still massively debated. There are a tonne of studies out there on protein consumption and exercise, but I don't think any have arrived on an exact figure.
It doesn't help that the fitness industry is saturated by pseudoscience. With people plugging supplements and fitness advice intended to make them look like gurus that you should trust... when the reality is that the human body is too complex for anyone to have arrived at one-size fits all methods.

136g of protein is actually quite a lot for most people's diets. Most high protein foods are usually at best around 20/30g of protein per 100g.

Indeed. Very few of these gurus ever factor people's individual metabolism also. The RDA of most of their vitamins supplements is also miniscule compared to the amount needed for a male who exercises daily.
As for protein absorbtion, its not a "magic number", its just the most recent studies from Cambridge and LA Universities which give their current opinions. Fairly credible sources which was why I brought them to the forum, but I do agree its subjective.

Clint, I'm really enjoying your posts.
I for one have to admit I prefer the slick, fast, technically adept athletic heavyweights of yesteryear than the ponderous power mad mastodons lumbering around today.
Do you have any theories on how a pair of men around 40 like the Klitschko brothers can be gaining muscle mass? It seems their bodies should be breaking down at this point but instead they are becoming magically bigger and stronger, albeit against the worst opposition ever seen.
Do you have any idea how they do this?
