It contradicts everything Barry heard said tho "PPV is only necessary when the fight can not be made without it".......this fight does not fall in that category. The way its going every title fight in Britain will be ppv. This is not good for boxing.

Don't get me wrong I don't agree with ppv .... I pay a lot of money For sky prescription ..... However with the belts on offer, the fan base and the fact that its a english prospect v an english world champion... ppv was almost a certainty unfortunately...

I know the ppv landscape was somewhat different back then, but are you saying that fight would have been ppv level on its own?

Have to say its not how I remember it. Clev got more exposure on ringside and sky sports news in the build up, its just the ringside with groves and degale was such memorable TV and sticks in the mind.

My point is I don't think groves is a ppv level fighter yet, certainly without holding a belt of his own.

And at risk of contradicting myself, I wouldn't have said clev vs braehmer was ppv quality on its own either though!

It was more sold on the whole card, with the British smw scrap as chief support.

Get the Olympians, Bellew and Kell on the bill against a decent opponent and then you can start talking ppv.

I am saying it was definitely always about DeGale-Groves. I really don't know what you were watching. The promo was a young DeGale listening to Eminem and Groves to Oasis set in Dale Youth gym. "Also featuring Nathan Cleverley" was about all the mention he got. It was built up for months on Sky, George taking a warm up in Huddersfield and James on Scotland just to promote it. Braehmer didn't even pull out until fight week so that made no difference to how it was sold. The only time Nathan got publicity was when Boomer turned up around 14 stone calling him "a fooking rat". The fight sold 15,000+ in London. I was there and can assure you Clev had no more than a few hundred there.

FW gave it the "the only way this fight can happen is if we pay them well and only PPV can provide that" line.

Yeah, I've no problem with it being PPV, it was a fight that needed to happen at the time and it needed money in order to deliver it.

Froch-Groves in UK followed by Stevenson-Bellew in Canada on November 30th seems a viable PPV option.....

OK fair enough, my memory playing tricks a bit then!

I just remember clev featuring top of bill on all fight posters etc. I also remember a lot of gnashing of teeth when bellew failed the weight (and I saw the presser you talk about live on SSN, Dom negus had to literally grab bomber away from doing something stupid) and they got the random east European on at last minute with the press and forums saying will/should this still remain ppv etc.

If they do a gg v froch and then bellew v cloud or Adonis double header then that is worth £15. Other than that groves is not currently ppv class.

Go to YouTube and type "DeGale Groves advert, I would post the link if I knew how to do it. This is from when Braehmer was still on the bill! Then come back and apologise...

put burns in with someone witha 'name' faded or not & it will be PPV worthy in my eyes

or several GOOD under fights 50/50... like that magnificant 7 bill etc
